Martha is the ultimate happy bunny: cheerful, upbeat, seeing the best in every situation. And her bunny brothers Monty and Pip absolutely adore her. We were recently sent a copy of Martha and the Bunny Brothers: I Heart School to read. The toddler loves looking at books and this was a great story to read as the illustrations are beautiful. The story follows the adventure of Martha and her first day at school as she worries how her brothers will cope without her. This is one book which we will keep reading to help make the transition to school as…

Big Brother and Little Sis were sent some lovely new books from the little learners range. They are the perfect age for these colourful picture books and we’ve all been enjoying taking some time to look through them together. I often forget the simple pleasures that come from looking through a picture book. Miraculously the three books we were sent kept both the 5 and 25 month old entertained. This was of great benefit as the toddler always wants my attention so it was really lovely to do an activity which we could all enjoy. The three books we were…

One of my crafty passions is knitting so I was delighted to be sent a copy of Labour of Love: over 20 knitting patterns for treasured girls. This is the first book by Vibe Ulrik Sondergaard who studied fashion design at Kingston University. This book is absolutely beautiful! I would be happy to keep this on my coffee table but it is also full of contemporary patterns I would love to make, in fact I’ve already marked a few for my to-do-list! The photographs are gorgeous and really help illustrate each project. The projects are divided into types: sweaters, cardigans,…

We received a copy of the new book ‘How to Con Your Kid’ by David Borgenicht and James Grace. I was intrigued by the title as, lets be honest, I’m always on the look out for tips to help me ‘negotiate’ with the toddler. I’m still trying to figure out my parenting style but the onslaught of the Terrible Two’s has left me looking for suggestions. Everyone knows that children bring boundless joy into your life. However, they also bring temper tantrums, stubborn moods, sulks, and a level of mis-behaviour that would tax a saint at times – as any…

One of my favourite dates in the year is Mother’s Day! There’s something rather lovely about celebrating mum’s and I remember celebrating my first Mother’s Day just days after my son was born a couple of years ago. I really don’t expect a present from my two this year (a day off from nappies and bottles would be enough – I hope my husband is reading!). Published in time for Mother’s Day on 18 March, Stories of Motherhood, the latest title in Everyman’s Library’s Pocket Classics series, celebrates all aspects of motherhood. This beautifully packaged anthology gathers together more than…

My biggest fear about our new addition is the sleep deprivation! I have awful memories of the first few weeks with Edward where I quite literally wanted to gouge my burning eyes out I was so tired! At least I know what to expect this time. The people behind BBC Dragons’ Den success, Magic Blackout Blind, have launched a new book,‘Diary of a Sleep Deprived Mum’ written by a mum, inspired by mums and aimed at every parent suffering at the sharp end of sleep deprivation! It’s a fun book to read but also aims to inform via anecdotes and…

Just how do you introduce the idea of a sibling to your only child? I’ve been thinking about this for a while and got some great book recommendations from my local independent bookshop. We’ve been reading the beautifully illustrated
