Last night I was having a look through my old photos (so old they’ve been scanned into iPhoto) and came across one which I wanted to share. That’s me in the middle when I was much much younger. It was taken whilst I was at the University of St Andrews where I spent five happy years. One of the odder traditions was the concept of an academic family where a first year was adopted by an academic mother and academic father (usually in their third or fourth year). Like most traditions it’s historic meaning has been lost and now it’s…

There’s a new photograph meme over at Cafe Bebe called Flashback Friday. It sounded fun and I found the perfect photograph! We’ll shortly be celebrating Edward’s first birthday and I thought I’d compare my own party many moons ago. I’m a definite child of the 70s with that plastic bib and the party food. We’re taking Edward off to Bruges for a couple of days over his birthday so hopefully we’ll have a little party when we return home. Expect the same kind of photograph of Edward surrounded by food with rosy red cheeks, recorded for posterity.

I love Ella’s Notes from Home and have previously joined in a couple of times. This week’s prompt really made me think: Five things you want your children to know about you. Did I really exist before Edward came along? Sometimes it’s hard to remember! 1 I did exist before you came along. I’m more than a mummy, I’m more than a wife, daughter, sister, auntie, friend. Sometimes I struggle to remember who I once was. I’d love to be more than a label and am working hard to forge my own identity. 2 I have dreams but they’ve…

Michelle at Mummy From The Heart hosts a great weekly meme called Reasons to be Cheerful. I’ve seen lots of bloggers join in and thought I would have a go. 1 Edward took his first step today! I really wanted this to happen before he starts nursery as I wanted to see it. Lately he’s been standing unaided for a few seconds and today he took his first step. I went a bit mad and shrieked at my husband who fortunately saw him do it too. 2 I’m off to the Save the Children Blogging conference on Saturday…

This meme has been around for a while and as nobody has tagged me (sob) I thought I would join in. So Five Things That Make Me Feel Good: 1 Putting an exhausted boy to bed because we’ve had a great day together. I love it when we’re both tired but happy. This means that we’ve had a good day, probably gone out and done something fun and created memories. 2 An empty washing basket means I’m on top of some of the domestic chores. The washing basket seems to be permanently full since Edward arrived. He’s a proper boy…

Tommee Tippee, well know for their feeding and weaning products, have just launched a new Closer to Nature hygiene range and Edward and I were invited to attend the launch at Maggie & Rose. Their new hygiene range has been designed to make routine feeding easier through a range of products which help keep feeding equipment and the environment clean. The range consists of a hand serum, Steri-fluid, surface spray and soother, teat and teether wipes. All of the products (except the wipes) contain Byotrol – a new anti-microbial technology which forms a barrier to germs which lasts for hours.…

I’m so excited to tell you that I’ve finally won a QuinnyCasters challenge! Our third challenge was to use all possible online means to tell the world about our Quinny Zapp Xtra. Well I love a challenge and set about reviewing the Zapp Xtra on my favourite forums and websites, including Netmums, Mumsnet, Mums the Word, Bounty, as well as my blog, my baby blog and flickr. My motivation was that the top 3 QuinnyCasters who posted the most constructive and/or most reviews/testimonials would receive a hamper which would include: a Hoppop Motta Bike, Hoppop Donut Potty, Hoppop Coppa drinking…

Yippee, my holiday from work has officially started, I now have 11 days until I have to get back on public transport. My holiday has grown to epic proportions in my mind for some reason. Not that my job is stressful or hard but I am looking forward to having a break. I have to complain about my boyfriend. I know I’ve said he’s lovely, but he reads my blog and quotes it back to me! That’s the problem with him being the technical side of the relationship, he knows all my passwords and nothing is sacred anymore, not even…

Today I’ve been mainly sleeping. Two weeks of worrying about how to get to and from work safely have taken their toll and I’m absolutely knackered. I’ve been thinking how nice it would be to be a Victorian lady. I would wear lovely clothes, a corset and have strange hair dos. More importantly, I’d be so well off I wouldn’t need to go to work in the City, I wouldn’t need to get the tube either, ever. I would spend my days having my friends round for tea in the morning, and in the afternoon I would do fancy embroidery…
