Win a copy of Bake in Black

Now my son is safely back at school and enjoying the challenges of Year 1 I’ve had a little more time to myself to indulge in my passion of baking. I’ve been enjoying reading the recipe book Bake in Black: music inspired baking. This lovingly created cook book is a music –themed collection of more than 60 sweet indulgences. Bake in Black started life as a blog from a kitchen in East London and was written by a musician and food journalist. They took a rock or heavy metal song or an album title which then inspired them to create…

    Eating Belgian waffles

It’s a little known fact that I’m a Belgophile. I adore Belgium and have visited many Belgium cities including Brussels, Ghent, Ypres, Ostend, Bruges and this month Antwerp. I have a long list of more Belgian cities I want to visit, much to my family’s dismay. Obviously travelling at home and abroad can be expensive. According to some recent research by the Santander 123 credit card team the average daily spend while ON holiday (excluding flights and accommodation) in Barbados is a massive £109! Belgium is £88 and Poland and India came out cheapest with an average daily spend of…

    Philadelphia Deliciously Whipped

I love to try new things so when I spotted the new Philadelphia Deliciously Whipped during my weekly food shop I picked up a few pots to keep in the fridge. Philadelphia Deliciously Whipped comes in three flavours – Philadelphia Deliciously Whipped Original, Philadelphia Deliciously Whipped Black and Green Olives and Philadelphia Deliciously Whipped Fine Herbs & A Hint of Garlic. If you’re a fan of Philadelphia then these pots are the perfect size for sharing, or equally enjoying on your own. We had some friends round for lunch and we enjoyed the Fine Herbs & A Hint of Garlic with…

    Easy lemon curd cupcakes

To me Summer means warm weather, days spent at the Lido and a homemade picnic. The weather has been a little unsettled recently but we made the most of a decent day at the weekend and headed out for a picnic. As well as sandwiches and savoury snacks we took some homemade lemon cupcakes which were the perfect sweet treat. I love to bake with my children and it’s always fun to try a new recipe. I used a lemon curd cupcake recipe I found on the Flora website which was a standard cupcake recipe, using lemon curd to flavour…

    Unicorn bento

My 3 year is becoming a fussy little eater which is a shame as the rest of us really enjoy our food. Sometimes a fun little bento lunch helps, but not always. She loves to help me prepare lunch so I’m hopeful that this is just another stage that she will eventually grow out of. I’m always on the look out for a theme she will like. Now she loves minions and the Despicable Me films. She even has her own unicorn, just like Agnes. She enjoyed the minions themed bento I made recently so I thought I would try…

    Monday happy things

Goodness me the weeks are going by so quickly. Thankfully my Monday Happy Things post is here to remind me of all the fun things we got up to the previous week. Yesterday my daughter and I spent the day in London. We visited the Museum of Childhood to see Small Stories: At Home in a Dolls’ House. I love dolls houses and this was a beautiful exhibition covering  the small stories of 12 dolls’ houses from the past 300 years. We also saw The Alice Look which was a much smaller display celebrating the 150th anniversary of Alice’s Adventures…

    Miffy butter biscuits

Today is World Baking Day and I couldn’t let it pass without making something special for my family. I had planned to make some tea bag biscuits for the family. I did make them but they didn’t look good enough to share with my family so I used the extra dough to make some Miffy biscuits. My children love biscuits, but biscuits in the shape of their favourite characters are incredibly popular and make them super happy. Recipe for Miffy butter biscuits 500g plain flour 180g caster sugar 250g margarine 2 large eggs How to make Miffy butter biscuits This…
