I would like to think that having one child makes me an expert but in the couple of months between the toddler and baby I seem to have forgotten all the important stuff! Little Sis is now 6 months old and she’s hungry for more than milk. The only problem is I seem to have lost my confidence with weaning. At 18 weeks I started her on a spoonful of baby rice which she clearly hated. We quickly moved on to ready made purees in pouches which she demolishes. I have to admit that the toddler takes a lot of…

My daughter has recently been trying out her first pair of shoes. Starting out in Australia, the SKEANIE brand – loved by little feet around the world – has come to Europe. Its eco-approach only uses off cuts of leather to create stylish shoes that nurture and protect children’s feet. If this sounds like your kind of brand I have a great giveaway so you can win a pair of shoes of your own choice. I ordered a pair of the adorable Infant Mary-Janes in pink for my daughter. SKEANIES are shown in European sizes but the website has a really handy measuring chart…

You may remember last year I attended the Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally where I picked up some lovely fabric to make a crawling blanket for my second child. I didn’t know if the bump would be a boy or girl so I tried to pick neutral fabrics. I couldn’t resist london scene by etsuko furuya which literally leaped at me as I passed a stand selling fabric. As well as the main fabric I bought a lime fabric to back the blanket and purple to bind it together. The fabric is gorgeous! It features well-known London landmarks…

We hear a lot about mumpreneurs but what about the dad-preneurs (I may have made that word up) – the fathers who have a great business idea, often as a result of the new challenges faced as a parent? Well last week I met one such man, Chris Jones, who runs a brilliant business offering practical solutions for baby-proofing your home. Now, you may wonder why we would need this service as we are old hands with a 24 month old. Well I was interested to see what Chris thought of our own attempt at baby and toddler-proofing, had a…

Last week I had one of those emails which I had to re-read several times because I couldn’t believe what it contained. It asked if the children would like to test some of the latest Fisher-Price toys. I may have written back in capitals saying OF COURSE! You see I have a love affair with Fisher-Price and they are top of my list of toys I look out for in a bid to recapture the essence of childhood. I just loved my Fisher Price radio and play desk <happy sigh>. Anyway, I digress. Little Sis received the Fisher-Price Tiger Stacker…

Little Sis loves watching us when we eat so we’re beginning to think about starting weaning in a couple of weeks. I loved weaning her brother and still enjoy cooking for him so I’m really hoping it will be as straightforward as I remember! I’ve been busy stocking up on products such as hard wearing plates and bowls and pretty bibs and dusting off my recipe books. Boots is helping parents put a spring back in their step with plenty of savings across selected baby products including change time, toys, feed time and skincare. Make the most of these offers…

It’s not often that I liken my youngest to a panda but it seems that she’s had something in common with the newest inhabitants at Edinburgh Zoo. The dreaded colic. Just like Yang Guang and Tian Tian, Little Sis has been horribly unsettled; crying and not sleeping or feeding properly until the small hours. This was so out of character that we had to seek help from our Health Visitor. It’s difficult to imagine when she’s sleeping so peacefully next to me during the day but we’d come to dread the evenings. We agreed it was probably colic which is…

We’re big fans of Plum and I relied on ready made food a lot when I started weaning Big Brother as I wasn’t confident at all! Plum have recently introduced some new products which we were happy to try. Pumpkin Pie and Strawberry Cheesecake Oaty Chomps bars (RRP £1.99 for five 20g bars) combine fruit or vegetables with oats and quinoa, great for a mid-morning toddler snack. The small, individually wrapped bars are convenient for on the go feeding and provide the complex carbohydrates that are crucial for babies development. The moist textured, handy size bars have been created to…

Challenge 2 – the out & about challenge Yesterday’s challenge was to test the ease of the miosolo when out and about. We had a couple of chores to do so bundled into the pram and off we went. We were only out for about 2 hours, but as Little Sis had a bottle before we left, we thought this was a good test of the miosolo. We went out in the Phil & Ted’s so she was lying down whilst we were out with plenty of room to move around. I checked the nappy whilst we were out, just…
