Difficult to believe Little Sis is one week old today. Edward is a completely lovable handful, constantly wanting to hold his sister, rock her in her chair, put dirty nappies in the nappy bin as well as being his typical toddler self. Poor Little Sister is just fitting in and going with the flow. She can often be found snoozing in her Stokke newborn chair whilst madness goes on around her. She can sleep through Edward’s noises but is wide awake in the peacefulness of the small hours!
It took us a couple of days to decide on her name (but she didn’t have to wait nearly as long as Edward) and it really suits her. She is one chilled out little lady and we’re looking forward to registering her birth and making her ‘official’ over the next few days. We’re also enjoying spending quality time together, only interrupted by the postman delivering cards and flowers – the babymoon we’ve always wanted!
Despite a manic toddler we are enjoying ourselves. We’ve been out to lunch, the same place we went with Big Brother when he was born. Waiting for midwife appointments is actually a good thing as there’s no pressure to go out! A good friend recommended that me and the hubby shared the night shift and it works really well for us. We take it in turns to sleep in the spare room, the other looking after Little Sis. This means that we both get a good 4 hours’ sleep each, more if she is sleeping well, and are able to function well during the day. I’m hoping to start establishing a bedtime routine at the end of my husband’s paternity leave.
The only slight problem has been lifting Big Brother (who now seems huge in comparison to his Little Sis!). He gets upset when I don’t pick him up which is fair enough but we’re trying to get round it by cuddling and sitting on the floor, with daddy doing all the lifting in and out of the car, his chair or the cot. This morning I was on duty so we had a picnic breakfast which was fun but strange. I’m a real stickler for routine and could see pieces of banana rolling under the sofa – but it was fine!
