This afternoon I was booked in for another scan, I thought to check the growth of the baby. I had a lovely sonographer but her English wasn’t great. So when she said things such as ‘there’s a lot of fluid’ I asked for clarification. I was referred to the doctor who was eventually able to explain that the baby was breech and there was more amniotic fluid than expected (which is why I look bigger than I should). We agreed to try an ECV next week to try and turn the baby. The doctor then noticed that my scan showed the placenta was lying low which apparently means an ECV is pointless and the only option is a caesarean.
We’re having another scan next Tuesday to see where the placenta is before we discuss what to do. I feel like all my ante natal classes, ante natal swimming classes and everything I have learned is for nothing. I’ve been so focused on having a natural water birth that I never entertained the idea of anything else.
After spending hours hanging around the hospital this evening we went to our final NCT session on breast feeding. It was a really interesting discussion with plenty of laughs, especially when the instructor got a knitted boob out to demonstrate with! She even offered to share the pattern!
