    Sunny days

The weather was gorgeous today, warm and sunny all day long. We made the most of it by spending all day out and about. First, we walked around Ryde, which must be my second favourite town on the Isle of Wight. Then we headed over to St Helen’s and had lunch with my sister at Baywatch on the Beach – a great restaurant serving delicious food which overlooks the Solent – so something nice to look at and lots of people to watch. Later on we drove down to Sandown where I tried to push back all the hideous memories…

    Nothing

We seem to have managed to do less today than we did yesterday or the day before. Maybe this is the point of a holiday? After a late breakfast we went to Ryde and had a look round the shops before heading over to Bembridge Windmill. We climbed to the top and admired the view before driving over to see the planes take off from the local airport. It has been lovely and sunny here today, perhaps that is why I feel so lethargic! Tonight we went to the local cinema which looked like it hadn’t been touched since the…

    Ventnor, Isle of Wight

Ventnor, Isle of Wight, originally uploaded by Jennifer Young. Spent the day dodging the showers in Ventnor, one of my favourite places. It is a small, largely unspoilt Victorian seaside town, full of quirky shops and twisted streets. We stopped for a coffee in this amazing pink building (the only way to describe it), and after a huge lunch at The Spyglass Inn, went for a stroll on the beach. I bought an old drawer of moveable type to clean up and fill with trinkets when we get home.

    Another sunny day

Spent the day shopping in Newport, had some lunch in a cute tea-shop, then on to visit my sister and nieces. My sister cooked dinner for us (the first time in years). Then we came home via the beach. I bought some great vintage fabrics in Newport which are currently being washed. Pictures soon…

    Hot and sunny

Today the weather has been BEAUTIFUL for once, lovely and sunny and hot. We made the most of it and went for a long walk in West Wight. We started off at Yarmouth and after buying some lunch in a little deli headed off into the countryside. We managed 5 miles, passing through the outskirts of Freshwater, stopping off for lunch at Golden Hill Fort, before admiring the view and some scary military-looking architecture outside Fort Victoria. 4 hours later and we were back in Yarmouth eating some delicious Minghella ice-cream and feeling pretty pleased with ourselves.

    on holiday…

We are currently on holiday on the Isle of Wight, enjoying the peace and quiet of my mum’s house whilst she is away. Tonight we visited Ryde Regatta with my sister and nieces. The fireworks were amazing even though my youngest niece thought they were going in her eyes. I fed her lots of candy floss and the delivered her home for my sister to deal with.

    New toys

Today I visited the Cath Kidston sale again and after much deliberating came away with a large sewing box. As you can see I have an almost identical smaller version but it hardly held anything. The new one is much much better. Some new purchases also arrived courtesy of ebay, some lovely vintage bias and ric rac. And my lovely boyfriend surprised my by buying me the new Orla Kiely doormat I saw in Heal’s. It’s almost too good to wipe your feet on but it’s too big to frame!

    Garden treasures

Today we were very happy that it finally stopped raining and we could spend some time in our garden. Whilst digging out the tree stumps we found lots more treasures: bottles, quarry tiles, more bottles, more quarry tiles, an old bedstead, a pair of coal tongs, broken pots and more quarry tiles. I need to find a way of re-using the quarry tiles in our garden as I think they could make a nice feature. I also managed to find time to visit the Cath Kidston sale at the Marylebone branch. There wasn’t much I wanted (probably as I already…
