Too posh to push and other myths

Last week I was invited to The Portland Hospital for a look behind the scenes. I’ve lived in London for a long time and regularly see pictures of celebrities being papped outside The Portland with their new arrivals. As I’m currently pregnant I was interested in the maternity services at The Portland and they offer an impressive service including 14+ antenatal appointments, all routine blood tests, 3 scans, active birth workshops and hypnobirthing classes and access to complimentary therapies. I met a couple of the midwives and they were lovely, doing a job they clearly enjoyed in a wonderful environment.…

How to make a business card holder

I have some business cards and wanted to make a fabric business card holder to keep them in order in my handbag. This project took less than 30 minutes and you can make them for yourself or as presents as they can be used to hold business cards, credit cards or photographs of grandchildren! How to make a business card holder 1. Choose two pieces of fabric and cut 5″ x 10″. You’ll also need a piece of interfacing (to give it some stiffness) cut to the same size. 2. Place the pieces of fabric right sides together with the…

    Bumpwatch – 19 weeks

Week 19 already so almost half way through this pregnancy! Where is the time going? I am totally missing the time spent lying on the sofa that I had with my first pregnancy. I’m on my feet all day with Edward, making sure we have loads of fun together and cherishing the time we spend as a two as I know our relationship will change when the new baby comes along. It doesn’t help that he seems to be quite clingy and whingey at the moment with no obvious cause and we’re having a few broken nights of sleep. Last…

Review and giveaway: Pot of Gold Balm

*****Competition has now closed and the winners have been notified***** My search for the perfect nappy cream continues as I was recently sent a Pot of Gold Baby Balm from The New Zealand Honey Shop to try. When Edward is teething he gets awful nappy rash so I like to keep a cream in my changing bag at all times. Pot of Gold Baby Balm is for sensitive baby skin and has been brilliant on his nappy rash and great as an everyday nappy balm/cream, especially on his dry skin. It is also suitable for using with cloth nappies too as…

    We love wooden toys

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that although we always thought we would only buy wooden toys, the plastic mafia have crept in. Well, I think I just wasn’t looking in the right place. I’ve recently found a great online shop which sells lovely wooden toys for boys and girls: WoodenToyShop.co.uk – a world of fun with wooden toys! The site is really easy to use and features the best wooden toy stockists, including Bigjigs, John Crane, Plan, Brio, Wheely Bugs and Quadrilla. I’ve seen plenty of toys Edward would love, including BigJigs Pirate Skittles, Melissa and Doug Farm…

    Vintage kitchen cupboards

I’m not sure how it started but I became obsessed with having a vintage kitchen cupboard. You know the kind, with lots of drawers and cupboards and a lead lined box to store your milk in. Somehow I ended up with two, greedy I know. Vintage kitchen cupboards The first I found in one of my favourite vintage shops in Exeter. The shop was stuffed full of antiques but they had a couple of kitchen cabinets and the decorated glass panels really caught my eye. It was made by Blue Gate Products Ltd. A ‘Pride o Home’ Unit, made in…

    Heaven in a tub

Despite being 18 weeks pregnant I am happy to say I haven’t had any cravings, yet. I don’t really remember any with my first pregnancy either, although I did eat a few packs of Monster Munch. All this might be about to change. We were sent three tubs of Simply Ice Cream to taste. We both love ice cream so this was no hardship. We received Raspberry, Honeycomb Crunch and Stem Ginger and Marmalade.  We waited until Edward was in bed before we tried them…. It’s no understatement to say the ice cream is delicious! I especially enjoyed the Honeycomb…

    Review: Baby nose-clear medicine dummy

It can often be tricky to administer medicine when your little one is upset. The Eezimed dummy has been designed as a safe and easy way of administering exact amounts of medicine to your baby.It can be used from 3 months and is an alternative to using a spoon or syringe. I’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve needed to give Edward a dose of medicine when he ‘s had a raised temperature or needed pain relief to help with teething. It’s often difficult to get the right dosage or administer it when you’re half asleep and trying…

    The novelty of pregnancy

I was tweeting one night last week about how difficult it is to find decent maternity wear. It’s only been 12 months since I packed away my maternity clothes and already they seem so out of date. When I was pregnant with Edward I bought lovely Autumn/Winter maternity clothes. I lived in maternity jeans from New Look, a basic maternity vest from Dorothy Perkins and lots of tops and jumpers from Mamas and Papas. This time round I lack money to buy new maternity clothes but I can’t face wearing my old clothes. Not that money has stopped me having…
