Now as you may know I’ve been having a good clear out lately, partly due to my excessive hoarding of clothes and because we want to move house this year. Most of my shelves were piled high with maternity and old work clothes so they’ve all been bagged up and donated to charity. Unfortunately it didn’t leave as much space as I was hoping so I will have to be a bit more ruthless. I have one shelf which I’m just not sure what to do about – the shelf of many handbags. I’m not really a girly girl so…

Ever keen to do our bit for the environment, save money and see if I can ease the kids’ eczema, over the last few weeks we’ve been trying out the ecoegg. The ecoegg claims to wash your clothes effectively without using washing powder or liquid. The ecoegg is about three times the size of a normal egg and you fill it with special pellets which do all the hard work. Now for the science bit: there are two types of pellets – dark tourmaline ceramic pellets which weaken the adhesive forces between the dirt and fabric and the white mineral…

Do you remember last month I told you about the P&G Capital Clean Up? I’m excited to be playing a very small part in making London a fresher, greener place by nurturing and naming a plant which might be added to one of our local Febreze Fresh Havens at Pinemartin Activity Park or the Whittington Hospital. We were sent a Febreze Mini Fresh Haven planter kit which contained everything we needed to grow our own flowers. Well today we got our hands dirty and planted some of the seeds. Big Brother was very excited because a) he’s a boy and…

A bottle of sweet chilli sauce has been a staple of my kitchen cupboards since I was at uni. Blue Dragon make lots of other lovely products and we were recently sent some goodies from their range. Tonight we had a delicious curry made with their coconut milk and Laksa curry paste – just the right spicy-ness for us! Blue Dragon are currently running a great on-pack promotion so you can win your own Oriental bowl and spoon set. 2012 is the year of the Dragon, a powerful symbol in Oriental astrology of good fortune. It also happens to be…

I received a press release saying that as of 1st April, Asda Pharmacy (in 218 Asda stores) will be giving out free Vitamin D to children above the age of 3. Apparently recent advice from the Chief Medical Officer has suggested that all high-risk groups (including children under 5) should take the supplement to top up on their natural supplies which are mainly obtained from sunlight. I was horrified when I read this. I make sure we go out every day and get plenty of fresh air whether for just a walk or a trip to the park, ensure a…

We’ve just come back from a lovely week away visiting family. We’re fortunate that the grandparents live by the sea in Devon and the Isle of Wight so there’s no excuse for not getting plenty of fresh air and exercise when we visit. One of the things we packed this time was Big Brother’s mini micro scooter. He’s been having loads of fun with it at home but we knew he would have even more fun scooting along the promenade! Putting the scooter together with daddy Both grandad and nanny were suitably impressed with his scooting skills. The clever little…

Like a scab that can’t be left alone I follow someone on twitter that I shouldn’t. We are complete opposites but we are both mothers. She does nothing but boast about her child. To be fair she works hard to give him the best. He goes to a good nursery, has his name down for private school, has beautiful toys and clothes. I’m a stay at home mum of two. I run myself equally ragged but cooking, cleaning, taking trips to the park and dreaming up messy activities. She goes to gigs, concerts, weekend breaks in Europe and has membership…

Last year we were sent a yoomi bottle to try with Big Brother. We got on really well and couldn’t wait to use it with Little Sis too. I have to be honest and say I didn’t use it for the first couple of weeks. I was in a total newborn haze and struggling with the constant feeding and a demanding toddler too. However, after a couple of weeks a routine emerged and I found it easy to introduce the yoomi bottle. As we had previously used it we found it simple to use. Little Sis, unlike her older brother,…

In a desperate attempt to tidy the lounge I’ve been looking at my craft stash. Despite all my posts about parenting I spend a lot of time sewing which I never get a chance to blog about. For a long time my monthly indulgence has been Mollie Makes for the beautiful photography, inspiration and patterns. Who can forget my favourite ever pattern for felt biscuits? The paper copies do take up a lot of room but the cover gifts always tempt me to buy them, rather than the sensible digital copy which takes up no space. Looking through my collection…
