baby pregnancy

A positive csection story

So on Monday the day finally came when we would get to meet our new baby. We dropped Edward off with a friend and drove to the hospital. On arrival we found out that we were the third section booked that morning and there was the possibility of a couple of emergency sections too. We were taken to a large double room with en-suite bathroom and settled down for a long wait.

The Anaesthetist came for a chat about pain relief and when she had gone we took some photographs of ourselves and the lovely babygro we had made the night before. It was a strange feeling knowing something momentous was going to happen that day! Before we knew it our midwife had come back to ask why we weren’t ready as they had decided we were first! So we quickly changed, packed our belongings on a Tesco trolley (seriously, we took pics to prove it!) and walked to theatre.

My lovely Pink Lining changing bag – used for the first time!

The operating theatre was smaller than I had remembered. It took 30 minutes to insert the epidural in my back so I had plenty of time to look around. After that things moved quickly and although I didn’t get a great view our daughter was born at 9.52am and I was in the recovery room within an hour. I had a smooth transfer to the post-Labour ward and was on my feet by 6pm that day.

The whole experience was better than I was expecting. My post-natal care was much better too, with lovely midwives, definitely helped by seeing some familiar faces from Edward’s birth around the maternity unit.

Oh sounds wonderful – so happy for you.

Weren’t you on your feet by 4 rather than 6 though?

Wasn’t the 6, the number of hours, i.e. birth at nearly 10 and up and about at 4?

That’s how I remember it from Twitter anyhoo (can’t check as I have closed it down ready for bed as I am shattered).

    Liska xx (congrats again)
