We’ve been lucky to have some amazing family days out recently. Last weekend we spent a day at London Zoo thanks to Superbreak who supplied us with a family ticket.
A day at London Zoo
We love going to the Zoo, especially as we heard there were a few new areas since our last visit.
Our first stop was the recreated South American beach landscape called Penguins Beach. We all love the penguins as thanks to the glass walls and underwater viewing areas you can watch them swimming around. We were also lucky enough to see them eating their breakfast as one of the Keepers was throwing them fish. We find the advertised feeding times too mobbed to be able to see anything so this was really fortuitous.
Little Sis demanded to see the Lions so we headed off to that corner of the Zoo, stopping off at Butterfly Paradise on the way. Housed in a giant caterpillar you can walk through the free flying butterflies and see the pupae holding room where the beautiful pupae develop and butterflies eventually emerge. For any child familiar with The Very Hungry Caterpillar this was a great exhibit!
The children are at a really fun age, they loved their visit and were happy running around and seeing the animals. Little Sis loved everything she saw but particularly the Lions and Gorillas. We also discovered a great area called Animal Adventure where the children could run around and climb like the coatis, as well as explore a network of tunnels and meet underground animals in their own habitats.
Her brother enjoyed the Aquarium, where we spotted Nemo, and the Reptile House. There were some fun weekend activities which the children were happy to join in with and which really added to our day out.
My favourite part was Into Africa as I love the Giraffes. This was our final stop for the day as we were all beginning to flag a little. It’s funny how little legs can run for miles when there’s so much to see and do. London Zoo definitely kept them busy and we all enjoyed our day out.

July 8, 2014 at 7:06 pmSounds like you had a much better day there than we had! Half was closed and the remaining half looked thoroughly pathetic, we were really disappointed – but then we are rather spoilt with Colchester Zoo on our doorstep!
