Five Happy Things

Five Happy Things {Week 31/2025}

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me smile in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures.

Five Happy Things {Week 31/2025}

My daughter returned from her week long Scout camp to the New Forest. She had a wonderful time coasteering, cycling, cooking over the camp fire, hiking and swimming. It sounded the perfect end to the academic year and a great start to her summer holidays.

I finished my English Paper Piecing Ladybird kit I bought from MakeBox & Co back in 2023.  I decided to applique the EPP ladybird to a blank banner. Two of the legs stick out slightly but it’s quite fun. I replaced the pink fabric with some Liberty Tana Lawn for the flowers, and hand quilted inside them.

Last week I finished reading The Queen’s Necklace, a Tudor mystery fiction book by Adrienne Chinn. I was really lucky and found a pile of Persephone books in my local charity shop, so I bought all of them to add to my collection.

Macbeth at Wilton's Music Hall

With my son back from his trip to Bosnia, we went into London and watched a performance of Macbeth at Wilton’s Music Hall performed by The Dukes Theatre Co. This is one of his GCSE texts and it was great to watch a live performance.

Have you noticed the blackberries have been out for a few weeks already? It seems early but we went blackberry picking over the weekend and picked loads. They’ve all been washed and frozen for autumn.

What’s made you happy lately?

  5. We have a blackberry bush in our back yard and it had berries before school was out! This year, they are a little sour because of the heat. It’s great both your children are back from their trips and enjoying some family time together.
