Matilda pose at Matilda The Musical

Five Happy Things {Week 463}

Posted on August 27, 2023August 28, 2023 by jenny

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while. This is my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I always love to write.

Five Happy Things {Week 463}

Last week was the fifth week of the school summer holidays – just one more week to go! We returned from a weekend away where we rented a campervan for the weekend. It was definitely an experience, and not sure it’s one I want to repeat in a hurry. This meant it was only a 4 day working week!

Somehow we squeezed in trips to see both Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre, Covent Garden as well as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – The Musical at the Mayflower in Southampton. Both were really good shows, but my daughter and I both really loved Matilda.

As the kids are going back to school soon we had to go school shoe shopping. I booked an appointment at Clarks but ended up buying shoes elsewhere in the end. We also stocked up on new rucksacks, water bottles and pencil cases.

I really needed some ‘me’ time last week so made sure to pick up some sewing. I decided to make the butterfly embroidery brooch from the Summer Craftpod subscription box. This was a small project and only took a couple of hours, which was perfect for me.

Morph gingerbread biscuits

We baked! It’s been a while but we whipped up a batch of gingerbread dough to make our own Morph gingerbread biscuits, inspired by the Morph sculpture trail we visited recently.

    Renting a campervan must have been quite an adventure, and the musicals sound like a blast. Plus, finding time for some ‘me’ time with your sewing project is a great way to unwind. Here’s to making the most of the final week of summer holidays!

    I love to sew and really does relax me. Takes my mind off of the world, the news, and life in general. My happy place.

    Sounds like a busy but fun time! I’ve wanted to rent a camper, but I don’t want to drive it hahahaha. Glad you had a great time though!

    I absolutely loved matilda when I saw it, and I’m glad I saw it before the remade film. I saw Charlie and the chocolate factory years ago when it was in London. It’s good that you’ve got so much into the final weeks of the school holidays x
