sleeping in a VW campervan

Five Happy Things {Week 462}

Posted on August 21, 2023 by jenny

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while. This is my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I always love to write.

Five Happy Things {Week 462}

It’s been a bit of a juggle trying to ensure the kids have a good summer holiday whilst we’ve both been working. My daughter spent the week at our local young people’s centre whilst my son stayed at home, working through some of his homework.

Last week I took my son to go and watch Express G&S at Wilton’s Music Hall, a murder mystery spoof, which features every single G&S opera in 75 minutes of madcap tomfoolery. The cast was made up of only three people and it was a very funny show. We were also able to tick off two more of the Morph sculptures as we walked there from the station.

Over the weekend we rented a VW campervan and had a family adventure; staying at Canterbury Camping and Caravanning Club Site. It was certainly an experience sleeping in a campervan for a couple of nights. We took the kids and re-visited Margate and Whitstable, as well as spending a day exploring Canterbury. We were even able to take the dog with us as we looked round Canterbury Cathedral!

Canterbury Cathedral is dog friendly

Margate was so busy as the weather was amazing and the beach was packed with people. We were finally able to visit Dreamland, as it was closed last time we visited, as well as the Turner Gallery. Unfortunately the tide was in so we couldn’t see the Antony Gormley Another Time statue.

We had another amazing meal at Lilie’s Margate which is a small tapas restaurant run by a friend. We were excited to take the kids after our visit earlier this year, and they enjoyed the delicious food there too.

Have a great week!

    Sounds like you had a great week, I have not been to Margate for years, I do also love a good tapas restaurant as well. Canterbury is somewhere I would like to visit as not been there before

    Margate is somewhere I’d love to revisit. I’m glad that you got to visit Dreamland on this visit after it being closed last time. I’ll look out for the tapas place if we get to go.

    The VW Campervan sounds like fun! I haven’t been camping in a while and it would be cool to try out the van. It is nice to camp as a family.

    It’s great that we all can finally spend holidays out and travel. A summer shouldn’t be boring especially for children. They deserve to have fun after long days at school.
