SuperQuesters: The Case of the Stolen Sun, the SuperQuesters

SuperQuesters: The Case of the Stolen Sun {book review}

Posted on August 2, 2022 by jenny

We were recently introduced to the brand new SuperQuesters series, which has been expertly designed by authors Lisa Moss and Dr Thomas Bernard to develop STEM skills for 4-8 years old in a fun and accessible way. The series is perfect for fans of Izzy Gizmo, Ada Twist, Scientist, the Fantastically Great Women series and superhero enthusiasts. Launching with SuperQuesters: The Case of the Stolen Sun, the SuperQuesters series is a unique new concept in storytelling combined with hands-on learning.

SuperQuesters: The Case of the Stolen Sun {book review}

SuperQuesters is a young fiction adventure series at its heart with a non-fiction educational twist. Each adventure addresses a specific scientific question and the central characters become their alter ego superheroes, the SuperQuesters, journeying to magical Questland to answer the question for the reader. Readers are invited to help the SuperQuesters complete their ‘quest’ by interacting with a series of activities (the STEM quests) to arrive at the answer. While completing each overarching ‘quest’ in Questland the reader develops 10-12 different STEM skills such as coding, abstraction, logic and trial and error, covering key aspects of the Key Stage 1 Computing, Maths and Science National Curriculum.

SuperQuesters: The Case of the Stolen Sun, the SuperQuesters

In SuperQuesters: The Case of the Stolen Sun, Lilli, Leo and Bea unite to solve the challenging science problem ‘what makes things go up?’ as the SuperQuesters, Lillicorn, Leo Zoom and Bea Bumble. Can their readers help to solve the quests to track down Lord Grumble and return the stolen sun to Questland before it’s too late?

SuperQuesters: The Case of the Stolen Sun, the SuperQuesters

The SuperQuesters show that anything is possible with clear thinking, logic and patience. With over 100 reusable stickers in each book, plus a reward chart, glossary and answer page, children will love charting their progress and celebrating their success. My daughter was excited to see the book as she loves as activity book, especially one with stickers!

She enjoyed the story and each puzzle. It’s a great way to learn STEM skills without knowing you are learning!  We would love to see a series developed for a slightly older audience of readers.

Book two, SuperQuesters: The Case of the Missing Memory will publish in Autumn 2022.

About the authors and illustrator
Husband and wife author team, Dr Thomas Bernard and Lisa Moss were inspired to co-found QuestFriendz, a STEM children’s book publisher, following the birth of their twin daughters and their passionate belief that all children should be nurtured to love STEM learning. Lisa grew up in Canada and has written stories from a young age. A 20-year corporate career at several high-tech companies led her to become acutely aware of the STEM skills gap. Thomas grew up in France and was inspired by his grandfather to have a curiosity for science, technology and discovering the world around him. His love for coding and the opportunity to create and innovate led him to pursue a PhD in Computer Engineering. He became profoundly aware of the STEM skills gap and more specifically the gender gap in STEM during his time as a computer science lecturer and during his career at several high tech companies.

Disclosure – we were gifted a copy of the book
