STEM Valentine tangram for kids

STEM Valentine tangram for kids

Posted on February 9, 2021September 18, 2022 by jenny

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and we’ve been enjoying all kinds of Valentine themed arts and crafts this year. I like to come up with different things to keep my kids busy and active and now they are a little older they enjoy STEM learning. Our STEM Valentine tangram for kids is a great STEM learning tool which helps build important STEM skills.

STEM Valentine tangram for kids

What is a tangram? Invented in China about 200 years ago, a tangram is a two-dimensional puzzle, created by cutting a square into seven pieces. The puzzle consists of seven pieces (one parallelogram, one square, and five different sized triangles). The goal of tangram puzzling is to reproduce various shapes that use all of the pieces with every piece touching and none overlapping.

Our Valentine tangram is inspired by these well-known Chinese puzzles.

All you will need is our free Valentine tangram puzzle sheet (click here for the red version and click here for the white version) and some scissors. You can easily turn our tangram into a card for Valentine’s Day – you will need some stiff card and a glue stick to do this.

First of all print out our free Valentine tangram. Cut out the coloured shapes along the bold lines.

Arrange the shapes to form a heart shape.

This makes a fun puzzle activity that can also be stuck onto card stock as a Valentine’s Day card.

There is a handy guide to how to make the heart if needed! Just check the off cut to find it.

Glue the pieces on to a co-ordinating coloured card to make Valentine art or give as a handmade card.

Given current lockdown circumstances and situations – crafts to do at home are just brilliant! And who doesn’t love a puzzle?

These puzzles look fun to do and they also help your brain to think harder. Great for kids.
