I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s usually a post I love to write but obviously life has changed considerably for us and everyone else in the UK over the last few months. Life is strange at the moment for everyone but I still want to try and record some of our happier moments.
Monday Happy List {Week 295}
We are making a huge effort to get through the weeks when they all feel exactly the same. We focus on home learning in the morning but it usually spills into the afternoon too. We play games, play outside, go for walks and try to keep busy. Weekends are more fun with longer trips out and no home learning!
So what made last week feel any different to the one before? Before lockdown began we sent away for our BEAR Grrreatest Games card keeper and stickers and they finally arrived. The children love playing with their BEAR cards so this has kept them busy, sorting them out, playing with their cards and putting stickers on everything. We even made a little video about them.
Our week is filled with Zoom meetings and the children both look forward to their Cubs meeting more than anything. This week they did a Kahoot quiz and they loved learning something new – in fact we’ve done a few Kahoot quizzes at home now too! They were challenged to spend 2 nights in a sleeping bag as their Cub Camp was cancelled. They managed one night out in a tent and one indoors!
We had our first McDonalds in 10 weeks! I’m not a huge fan of McDonalds but we’ve been treating ourselves to one takeaway a week (which is an amazing break from constantly preparing meals). We had our last McDonalds on Monday 23rd March, the day they shut, so it was fun to have another one. It gave us all a little boost, although I can’t say I want another one anytime soon!
As usual we’ve been on lots of dog walks and found lots of geocaches. This is a great way for us to explore new places and over the weekend we re-visited the Battle of Britain House in Ruislip Woods, as well as Bulstrode Camp, a bizarre Iron Age fort encircled by a housing estate in Gerrards Cross.
Over the weekend we finished putting together a story book sign. This was a challenge from the children’s school and something my son wanted to make. We cut 5 finger posts and he decorated each one with in the style of a different book. He enjoyed it (although it all felt a little last minute as homework does!) and we will be dropping it at school today. I quite fancy making my own literary garden sign post.

June 8, 2020 at 8:09 pmI have been actually craving for a Big Mac with extra pickles and a large portions of MCD fries. I never eat at McDonalds but for some reason recently I’ve been dreaming about a one off treat from them.

June 8, 2020 at 9:40 pmWe also had a McDonalds this week – we didn’t plan to but headed to Aldi for the food shop and there’s one next to it which reopened so it just had to be done!

June 8, 2020 at 10:50 pmI’ve seen the queues for McDonald’s and cannot say I am that desperate for one – I know I would feel the same as you, not in a rush to have another. The lockdown has provided enough disappointment as is! Awwwww the puppy looks so cute, like a fluffy teddy bear – good to hear you found loads of cache on your geocaching expiditions 🙂 Sim x

June 8, 2020 at 10:56 pmI saw so many people pop to McDonalds this week! I’ve heard there were some long queues at some of the ones close to us, might have to treat ourselves sometime soon!

June 9, 2020 at 11:15 amI haven’t ventured to McDonalds yet, but did find that our local KFC is delivering which we treated ourselves to the other day. I have seen pics of how long the queues are at Mc Donalds which puts me off

June 9, 2020 at 12:16 pmWe’ve been having a takeaway about every 10 days, it’s so lovely to have a break from cooking. I can’t wait to have a McDonalds again but the queue is putting me off right now!

June 9, 2020 at 1:01 pmThat’s so good that you’ve been able to explore and get out walking the dog more. We’ve had McDonalds I think twice since it came back to us. We usually ate out about twice a week (restaurants more than takeaways) but we’re trying to do just twice a month now x

June 9, 2020 at 1:10 pmYou can keep the McDonalds – I want your dog – what a cutie! Have to say I don’t miss fast food in the slightest and we’ve saved a fortune now we can’t eat out so often.

June 10, 2020 at 4:27 pmWe have enjoyed a take away too, but we tend to avoid McDonald’s, as we try to order as healthy as we can. Cute dog btw

June 11, 2020 at 12:40 pmIt sounds like you are all doing a great job at keeping busy, its so hard at times isn’t it? My little girl was so excited about Mcdonalds opening and loved hers but hasn’t mentioned it since so I think it was more a case of wanting it because she couldn’t have it lol! Your story posts look amazing!
