Five Happy Things {Week 254}

Posted on August 19, 2019 by jenny

I love to start the week by writing Five Happy Things. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures – it’s a post I always enjoy writing. After our epic trip to the Netherlands and Belgium we all enjoyed a few days at home. It was lovely to relax and catch up with some sewing, we painted rocks to hide and I did lots of tidying at home. We also bought the children’s shoes but let’s gloss over just how much that cost!

Five Happy Things {Week 254}

We’ve taken part in the Summer Reading Challenge ever since the children were old enough and they really enjoy it. This year’s theme is Space which they’ve found really engaging. We’re on Week 4 of the Challenge and the children love seeing what rewards they can pick up on each visit. Last week we went to a fun even run by the Science Museum and watched lots of fun science experiments.

We were #gifted a bundle of Rubik’s toys including Rubik’s Cage, Rubik’s Edge, Rubik’s Orbit and Rubik’s Block which the children have just loved playing with. We took them on our camping trip and they were great for keeping everyone occupied on the ferry or whilst we were waiting for food to arrive. I think our favourite is Rubik’s Edge which both children have already cracked! Look out for #summerscrambles to see some of our adventures.

It feels ages since we last had a trip into London so had a day out and visited SEA LIFE London Aquarium as well as Leake Street Tunnel and even saw a Banksy by the side of Westminster Bridge. We saw so many different animals at SEA LIFE London Aquarium including penguins, jellyfish and sharks. We had a lovely day out, especially as the weather was so lovely and hot.

Unfortunately the weather hasn’t been so good whilst we have been camping at Nodes Point on the Isle of Wight. Thankfully we have a really good tent which we were able to escape to when it rained. The kids loved the swimming pool and we were right next to the beach when the sun did come out.

I love a trip to the cinema and couldn’t wait to go and watch The Angry Birds Movie 2: Red, Chuck, Bomb and the rest of their feathered friends are surprised when a green pig suggests that they put aside their differences and unite to fight a common threat. Aggressive birds from an island covered in ice are planning to use an elaborate weapon to destroy the fowl and swine way of life. After picking their best and brightest, the birds and pigs come up with a scheme to infiltrate the island, deactivate the device and return to their respective paradises intact.

It was really fun with lots of jokes for adults, we loved it!We were gifted some of the new limited-edition Frenzy flavours for Starmix and Tangfastics which were really fun to try. Make sure you get your hands on them whilst you can!Have a great week!

    It sounds like you had an up and downtime, what a shame about the weather 🙁 it is always hard when it isn’t at it’s best and you are away. But sounds like you had a lovely time in London!

    Sounds like a lovely week. Think it’s great to focus on happy things in life. My kids also take part in the Summer Reading challenge every year and are loving this year’s Space theme.

    I love this and it’s important to focus on the positives. We really want to watch Angry Birds 2, the kids loved the first one!

    I’m glad that angry birds was fine to see as an adult, there must be nothing worse than having to go and see a movie which has nothing in it for adults x

    You’ve had a busy but fun week. We recently visited SEA LIFE London Aquarium, the children love it there. I always forget to go and have a look at Leake Street Tunnel, I’ve seen so many wonderful photos from there

    Love Rubik’s challenge! It keeps everyone alert and busy. It’s really good to incorporate it on campings and trips.

    What a fabulous idea reflecting on all the happy things you did! We usually do the summer reading challenge and this is the first year we have somehow skipped it, wonder if we can cram it in next week!
