4 ways to take care of yourself in 2019

Posted on January 6, 2019October 20, 2024 by jenny

Can you believe that 2018 is over? With the advent of the new year you might be wondering where the past year has gone and what 2019 might have in store for you. But rather than spending another year chasing after people, worrying about deadlines and hoping you might get some time to hear yourself think, why not make 2019 the year that you put yourself first for a change?

There’s nothing selfish about thinking about yourself and your own physical and mental priorities. So, why not consider trying these ideas in the New Year and make 2019 the year where you are number one.

4 ways to take care of yourself in 2019

Visit your dentist
It might seem more of a chore than a way to look after yourself, but visiting the dentist is a simple way of keeping your general health in check. Oral health is a window to so many other potential health issues, so going regularly means that you’re taking preventative measures before anything sinister can take hold. If you need a dentist in the Surrey area then check out weybridgedental.co.uk. Your dentist can also help you naturally whiten your smile and you can even take the opportunity to do something with your smile if you’re unhappy with it.

Keep yourself hydrated
None of us drink enough water. It’s such a basic human need yet so many of us really find it difficult! Keeping yourself hydrated is a great way to look after yourself – it’ll help with your brain function, memory, as well as improve your skin and will tackle your fatigue. If you normally struggle to drink enough during the day, then you could set yourself a water intake challenge and drink a certain amount by certain points of the day, or you could treat yourself to a new, reusable water bottle so you can fill it up and take it wherever you go. It’s better for the environment too!

Learn to say “no”
We often stress ourselves out because we feel we can’t say “no” to people. Whether it’s drinks after work with colleagues, a party at another School mum’s house, an errand that is completely out of your way and not convenient or someone pushing responsibilities onto you. If you practice saying “no” then you’ll be amazed at how incredible you’ll feel.

If your life is stressful and you’re simply taking on too much and compromising your own mental health then you need to understand that there is a line between being helpful and compromising yourself. Learning to say no will boost your self confidence so much. Practice.

Make time for yourself
Whether it’s a walk, time to sit and read a book, a cup of hot coffee before the kids wake up – whatever you love and enjoy doing, make sure you make or find the time to do it this year. You might be worried that you’re slacking on your deadlines or being lazy, but if you’re working hard then having a break will actually recharge you and help your productivity and performance. Give it a try.

Saying no more often is on my list for this year. I often feel as though I have to say yes, even when I want to say no.

This is such good advice. When you’re busy taking care of everyone else, it’s hard to remember to take care of yourself. This year I really must start saying no and drinking more water!
