Create your own squishies with the Smooshins Surprise Maker Kit

Posted on August 22, 2018December 5, 2022 by jenny

My children love squishies and crafting so we were excited to hear about the new squishy collectible Smooshins from MGA Entertainment. Building on the popularity of collectibles, unboxing, squishies and arts and crafts, this unique new toy range brings the surprise and anticipation of unboxing to a whole new level, with an exciting arts and crafts twist.

Smooshins Surprise Maker Kit

With over 10,000 combinations of characters and accessories to create and collect, fans can make their own Smooshins characters using the Smooshins Surprise Maker Kit. Surprise Character moulds give the ability to reveal a different surprise animal character each time, whilst a variety of different colours and accessories mean endless mix and match possibilities.

My daughter was so excited to get her hands on the Smooshins Surprise Maker Kit. It’s big and colourful and visually very appealing. Inside is everything needed to make two squishies: 2 character moulds, 4 colour pouches, 4 head pieces, 4 surprise face pieces, 4 belly pieces, 4 character stands and 1 pouch squeezing tool.

Surprise Maker Kit contents

The Surprise Maker Kit, which comes as a bear shape, needs batteries, but once we had found the right ones we were ready to go. My 6 year old picked the character mould she wanted to make, along with the colour pouch. We squeezed the pouch into the mould quite quickly (you only have 90 seconds) and placed it inside the Surprise Maker Kit.

It has a child-safe locking mechanism and flashing light on the top, so little fans know when their Smooshin is ready to be revealed. You need to leave it to set for at least 4 hours but we left ours overnight. The next morning we opened up the Surprise Maker Kit to see the mould.

We took the mould out and opened it up to reveal the Smooshin inside. It felt a little sticky to touch.

I have to admit that the first one we made failed. You have to be super quick to mix the two ingredients in the pouch and squeeze it into the mould. There is a plastic tool to help you squeeze it out but this is something that we adults did as our hands are stronger. You can see that we didn’t quite push out all of the material so it didn’t fill the mould. However this was on the back of the Smooshin so it didn’t really matter.

Out of the four pouches we made two Smooshins as one of the pouches had exploded in the box and one couldn’t be squeezed out into the mould. However Little Sis loved her Smooshins and was happy to add the little accessories and place them on their stands. They’re soft and squishy and super cute.  You can change the accessories and clean the moulds to use them again.

As well as the Smooshins Surprise Maker Kit you can purchase a Surprise Character Mould (£14.99) which gives you the ability to make a different animal. It includes one surprise character mould, one surprise face, one surprise belly, one surprise head piece, and one character stand.

You can also purchase a Smooshins Surprise Colour Pounch Refill (£9.99). Colour pouches come in 6 different colours for you to collect – Blue, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, and Yellow. Each colour comes with a different set of surprise accessories! Each pouch includes one colour pouch, one surprise face, one surprise belly, one surprise head piece, and one character stand.

The Smooshins Surprise Maker Kit is available from Smyths, Amazon and all good toy stores priced £49.99.

What a fun kit for a rainy day! It’s great the moulds are reusable too.

Hi, my daughter really wants a smooshins kit. I’ve looked everywhere in the UK and no one seems to sell it. I’ve tried ordering off eBay and Amazon but my order gets cancelled as it’s not in stock. I was wondering if you had one not being used and I could buy it off you. My daughter really wants it for Christmas but it’s being really difficult to get hold of one.

Sorry, this is an old post and we don’t have this toy any more.
