Boosting my body confidence

I mentioned the other day that we were really looking forward to our holiday in Holland. Our holiday park had a water park and was near to the sea. As much as I was excited for our family to have all these experiences my thoughts also began to turn to what that meant – summer clothes and swimming costumes. I am not at all body confident, especially after two children, but I knew I had to do something about it.

Boosting my body confidence

Body confidence is a funny thing. Body image is a major factor in self esteem and not really something I’m very proud of. I’m much happier covering up in baggy clothes and hiding my pale skin away all year around. So the thought of a week in warm weather, being active with my kids, and the very real threat of swimming pools and the beach made me a little anxious.

Fortunately my husband is happy to splash around in the beach or pool with the children. But this does make me feel like I’m missing out. My children have started asking why I don’t wear shorts (pale legs!) or put my swimming costume on (baby weight that just wont shift!). These excuses do seem a bit sad to me and I feel silly saying them to my children. I don’t want them to have hang ups about their bodies or worry about how they look.

I’ve started to take small steps to help boost my body confidence. Now I’ve started my new job I have a little extra money. So the first thing I did was to invest in some decent underwear from knix. They make the most comfortable bras and pants and comfort is important!

Next on my list is to buy some clothes that fit properly. We have a dress code at work and I’ve been seriously under-dressed so I need to up my game with some decent work wear.

More importantly I need to have a little more self-belief and put my swimming costume on. I know my children don’t care about my pale English skin or my mum tum. What they do care about is me watching them in the swimming pool, taking them on the water rides and sharing special holiday memories with them.

Well done working on your confidence Jenny, taking one small step at a time. I definitely feel better when I’ve treated myself to some new clothes or undies. Mich x
