seal watching in Norfolk

Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things

Posted on April 16, 2018 by jenny

Happy Monday everyone. Hope you had a great weekend. My children are back at school after a lovely 2 week break. I love starting off each week by writing my Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things blog post. It’s a great chance to reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as record some of our family adventures, and one which I always enjoy writing.

Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things

We’ve just got back from an amazing week in North Norfolk. It’s an area I already knew quite well but we hadn’t been back since I was pregnant with our son. It was really lovely to re-visit some old haunts. The weather was pretty dismal but we rented a lovely old cottage which had a wood burner. We spent most evenings enjoying the wonderful pubs then heading back home to light a fire and toast giant marshmallows.

The children got on really well, thankfully, and we had some lovely days out. There is so much to do in North Norfolk and we went on steam trains, explored castle ruins, and watched people crabbing on the quayside. Our little village had two small amusement arcades which my children obsessed over, so they’ve come back with lots of fun memories, and some truly awful plastic tat which they won.

One of my favourite days out was watching the seals on Blakeney Point. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and finally managed to tick off my bucket list. I have to admit that we weren’t really dressed for the trip. We’re Londoners and probably looked like it! It was a wonderful experience, definitely worth freezing our bottoms off in a little boat for. A few days later we spotted seals on the beach at Wells Next The Sea which was lovely.

We had some delicious meals out whilst we were away. I enjoyed not having to cook every day and we managed to eat three times at The Gold Fleece in Wells Next The Sea. It’s a lovely pub/restaurant and their New York Deli pizza is definitely something that everyone should try. We also loved The Anchor at Morston, a great place to warm up after a seal watching trip. It’s been named as one of The Guardian’s ‘UK’s 50 best Sunday lunches’ and is definitely worth a visit.

playing OK Play in the pub

We packed and played endless games of OK Play. This is a game we recently discovered and fits perfectly in a bag. You basically try to make rows of 5 tiles, a bit like Connect 4 but without a game board. My children love it and it kept them busy whilst waiting for food in pubs, or whilst we went on the steam train but couldn’t see out of the window due to the fog.

Have a great week everyone!

Sounds like you had a fabulous break away! All helps when children get on 🙂 The cottage looks love and what an apt name for the area! Sim x
