Netflix shows to enjoy on International Women's Day

Celebrating International Women’s Day with Netflix

Posted on March 7, 2018March 7, 2022 by jenny

Are you doing anything for International Women’s Day tomorrow? I think 2018 is a great year to celebrate the importance of women everywhere. I love that there is already so much going on for Vote 100, celebrating 100 years since some women got the vote. The daily news show that there is still a long way to go for women to gain equality with men, but I’m excited that things are moving in the right direction.

I’m determined to raise a strong girl and I’m sure she is a little bored of me banging on about feminism all the time! Her bedtime reading has been the brilliant Great Women who Changed the World – I’m hoping that it will inspire her to live her best life and not let anything stop her achieving her dreams.

Ahead of International Women’s Day tomorrow, we wanted to celebrate our fantastic little ladies and on-screen heroines across Netflix’s kids offering. There are some great shows and films which showcase these brave, courageous and inspirational girls. These characters act as real role models and I love that Netflix are committed to championing females from the youngest of ages!

Netflix has created the ultimate round-up of our favourite brave, fearless and inspirational girls. Netflix is showing kids that smart is the new cool and that there’s no problem a girl can’t solve on her own! From the super-smart girl gang in Project Mc2, to the bold, imaginative orphan from Anne with an E, Netflix is home to girls who mean business.

Celebrating International Women’s Day with Netflix

Spirit Riding Free – Seasons 1 – 3

Follow the wild-west adventures of Lucky, Pru and Abigail and their stallion companions, all while learning about courage and selflessness.

Matilda

Cursed with a cruel school principal and parents, a little girl discovers her hidden powers – which she can use to stand up to the bullies in her life. We loved reading the book together and this film is a classic too.

Anne with an E – Season 1

Despite being orphaned, Anne is bold, imaginative, and strong-willed, transforming the lives of everyone she encounters.

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir – Season 1

Two Parisian teeagers, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste, transform into the superheros Ladybug and Cat Noir, to protect the city from villains.

Annie – 1982 and 2014

She’s an orphan who gets an uncaring typhoon to care. There is no telling what a little joy, love, hope and a little song can do. I loved the 1982 film but we enjoy watching the 2014 re-make too.

The Mars Generation

The Mars Generation follows teens at NASA’s space camp, where they explore STEM topics, and see that a journey to Mars isn’t that far away

Project Mc2 – Season 1

New girl and teen spy McKeyla teams up with three other super-smart girls to become secret agents who use their science and tech skills to save the day. My 6 year old just loves this programme and there’s a great range of tie-in toys too. Check out our review of the Project Mc2 Ultimate Spy Bag here.

Julie’s Greenroom

The cast of puppets in Julie’s Greenroom dance, sing and improv while actress Julie Andrews educates girls and boys about the performing arts.

Mako Mermaids: An H20 Adventure – Seasons 1 – 4

A teenage boy grows a fish tail that comes with special powers. Can three mermaids help, and return him to normal?

So…make sure you settle down with all the family, grab some tasty snacks and celebrate the sisterhood on Netflix this International Women’s Day!

Yes, love that there is such a day to celebrate women everywhere! I loved the film Matilda as a kid so might try and get my little ones to watch it with me after school! I think my little girl would love the Project Mc2 though!

I have been hear a lot about project MC2. Not for the kiddos but if you fancy a grown up International Women’s Day must watch try Orphan Black so many strong female characters with different strengths and complexities it also looks at reproduction and female power I Loved it.
