Well it doesn’t seem that long since we celebrated Spring Equinox but somehow it’s already time to start thinking about and celebrating the Autumn Equinox, which takes place on the 22nd September. The Autumn Equinox marks the end of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere and the official first day of Autumn.
I love the transition to Autumn. We’ve been noticing the signs for weeks and everything seemed to come early this year. We were picking the first blackberries at the beginning of August and the children collect conkers on the school run every day.
Autumn makes me think of cosy nights in, candles, warm wool blankets and long walks through the park kicking leaves. We do a lot more crafting in the Autumn months and I love to have something set up for when the children come home from school. Today I’m going to share 8 crafts to help celebrate the Autumn Equinox.
Crafts to celebrate the Autumn Equinox
Make an Autumn leaves luminary with fallen leaves
Collect acorns and play with them at home by creating some colourful playdough acorns
Re-create delicious blackberries at home with our cotton bud/Q Tip blackberry craft
Make a colourful hand print tree collage with fallen leaves
Create silly sycamore seed faces
Make a painted pinecone garland to hang around your home
How about turning conkers into animals, such as snails?
If your children can’t resist picking up leaves or conkers then use them to create an autumnal seasonal sensory tray, add some of their favourite toys and this will keep them occupied for ages.
