This year I’ve totally been spoilt for choice with what books to include in our annual Book Advent. Every year I pick a selection of 24 books, wrap them up and put them under the tree as part of our Advent celebrations. The children choose one at random each day as our book of the day. Oxford Children’s Books kindly sent us a selection of their new Christmas titles which we were so excited to read together. Read to the bottom of the post for your chance to win the exact same bundle of Christmas picture books!
Greatest Animal Stories, chosen by Michael Morpurgo
Award-winning children’s writer and former Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo has gathered his favourite animal stories from around the world to create this collection.
From Puss in Boots to Peter and the Wolf, there’s a classic story for every bedtime. Beautifully illustrated throughout, this sumptuous edition is the perfect gift.
Winnie and Wilbur Meet Santa, by Valerie Thomas illustrated by Korky Paul
It’s almost Christmas, and Winnie and Wilbur are super excited. But disaster strikes on Christmas Eve when Santa gets stuck in their chimney! He desperately needs their help with his deliveries or Christmas just won’t happen…
A hilarious new Winnie and Wilbur adventure with spectacular pop-up surprise!
A Dot in the Snow by Corrinne Averiss illustrated by Fiona Woodcock
A curious polar bear and lost little girl meet in the snow, both separated from their mothers. A moving story about new friendships.
Walking in a Winter Wonderland written by Richard B Smith, illustrated by Tim Hopgood
Peggy Lee’s iconic song is brought to life with lavish illustrations by Tim Hopgood. Taking readers on a journey through a beautiful winter landscape, this is an enchanting book and CD to share at the most wonderful time of the year.
The Mouse That Cancelled Christmas by Madeleine Cook illustrated by Samara Hardy
For one little Mouse Christmas means just one thing…. Danger! And he’s soon ruining everyone’s festive fun with his health and safety concerns. Can the animals of Jingle Bell Forest work together to save Christmas?
We have been truly spoilt with this selection of books. We’ve read them all over a couple of nights and they are lovely. Our favourite is Winnie and Wilbur Meet Santa as we’ve always loved Winnie, and the pop up picture at the end is a brilliant surprise. I’m so excited to add these to our festive Book Advent – watch out for our short list soon!
