Last week I helped on a trip my son went on with his Year 2 class. We stopped to look at the colour of trees and the children loved picking up conkers and pine cones on the way. Autumn is a great season as I think it is easier for children to see the change in the weather, the leaves changing and falling, and there are so many opportunities to craft!
Baker Ross sent us some of their new Autumn craft kits to try at home and these have been great as both my children have been off school this week.
My 4 year old had fun with the Leaf Sand Art Decorations. We’ve made a few of this kind of decoration before and they are the perfect level for her. She needed a little help removing the sticky backed paper but then she enjoyed covering them with coloured sand to make pretty leaves. You can see the finished autumn leaves banner at the top there.
My 6 year old enjoys sewing so loved making the Autumn Cross Stitch Bookmark Kits. First he was able to colour the blanks in, then he added a simple cross stitch to them. They came with plastic needles so I didn’t need to worry about him hurting himself.
The areas to cross stitch are small but the perfect size for little fingers. A few times he got the thread knotted but it was easy to unpick and start again.
