Last week we received a special invitation from Disney On Ice to attend an exclusive VIP Fit To Dance class event with Disney On Ice skaters and Disney On Ice super fan Peter Andre! I’m not sure my children know who Peter Andre is but I quite like him so off we went to the Dominion Theatre in the West End.
Disney On Ice’s Fit To Dance
Fir To Dance is a new programme that gives your children a chance to share in the magical world of Disney On Ice by creating their own wonderful stories, and then telling them through dance. We’ve never seen a Disney On Ice show yet but we’ve watched enough YouTube clips to know we’d love to watch a show one day.
My 4 year old has taken a few dance lessons so we were excited to learn more about storytelling through dance. We were split into two groups and the children started working on a story together. They thought about which characters they wanted to be and developed a story, with a little help from Peter Andre and his son Junior.
We also had the expertise of dancers from Disney On Ice and they helped showed us ways to transform the story into a dance. My 6 year old started to get worried at this point but he soon found out it was more about moving to music than a full on dance routine. Then it was time to raid the dressing up box for crowns, swords and capes which transformed my children from, well my children, into super magical Kings and Superheroes!
It was lovely sitting and watching their little performance. Dance is a magical way to have fun and be active and they loved the storytelling through dance.
Anyone can do this and there are a number of helpful resources on the Disney On Ice website. If you are a school or family, why not take a look and use the resources to create your own stories and dance routines. The programme is aimed at children aged four to eight years, but anyone can use the ideas to have fun and keep active.
The story ideas sheets help you create a story by choosing the characters, settings and obstacles. There are also ideas for dance routines to tell the story, just like the creative team at Disney On Ice do. You will also find images from the shows, along with music and videos.
Could you be the 2016 Fit To Dance champion?
If you like the sound of all this then you may be interested in the search for UK’s Fit To Dance Champion! This is a national competition launching next Thursday (15th September) with the help of Peter Andre. The competition will be hosted on the Disney On Ice Facebook page and encourages families to create their own Fit to Dance session at home. Simply video your performance and upload it to the Facebook competition page. The winner will be crowned the 2016 Fit To Dance champion and win exclusive prizes including tickets to Disney On Ice presents Frozen.
