A patchwork letter J for my quilt gallery wall

Posted on February 4, 2016May 27, 2024 by jenny

Today I wanted to share the latest subscription box I have tried. I love to sew so I thought I would try a subscription box from My Fabric House.  I bought myself the Explore Package for £10 and a little parcel arrived containing 4 pieces of fabric, some bobble trim, ribbon, appliques and buttons. I love the colours of the fabric and had the perfect project in mind for the strawberry fabric.

A while ago my Instagram feed was full of the most gorgeous patchwork letters, which were a free pieced alphabet from Moda and their amazing designers. I really wanted to join in with Spell it with Fabric, printed out my letter which got ‘filed’ amongst all the other patterns I want to make.

I found the pattern the other day and thought I would use the pretty strawberry fabric. The pattern was quite simple so I cut out my fabric and started stitching.

The instructions were clear but unfortunately I became distracted and sewed one of the pieces upside down! I couldn’t unpick the stitches so had to start all over again with a different fabric as there wasn’t enough of the strawberry left.

This time I paid more attention to what I was doing.

As much as I enjoyed making my letter I knew I wouldn’t have time to make any more so I decided to make it into a little wall hanging. I added some batting and backing fabric. I used my Clover clips to hold everything in place.

I usually hand stitch my binding but this morning I used my machine to finish it off. It’s already up on my quilt gallery wall. This year is all about trying to make small patchwork pieces like this and I have a whole stack of projects to choose from for the next one!

This is adorable! One of my goals is to make a patchwork quilt. I need to start keeping an eye out for fabrics though because I always forget!xx
