What better way to start a new working week than for me to share the news that National Chocolate Week starts today! Not that I need an excuse to celebrate but the Candy Craft Chocolate Pen, some Divine Chocolate, as well as an easy to follow cupcake recipe from Amy Beth-Ellice definitely helped.
Toffee Apple Cupcakes
I really loved the sound of the Toffee Apple cupcakes and thought they would be the perfect Autumnal treat. I also knew we could make some fun decorations with the Chocolate Pen! I adapted Amy Beth-Ellice’s recipe slightly as I didn’t have time to make all the different parts, instead I used the cupcake recipe and added finely chopped apple to make my own version of toffee apple cupcakes.
I made a simple toffee sauce and mixed it with a basic buttercream recipe to make a delicious toffee buttercream. I then decided to add some food colouring to it and made one part orange and one part black.
Whilst the apple cupcakes were cooling we experimented with the Candy Craft Chocolate Pen. We decided to melt the milk chocolate bar and make chocolate spider webs to decorate our toffee apple cupcakes.
The chocolate pen was easy to use. I cut the bar of chocolate into small pieces and my daughter placed them into the clear plastic bag. We then watched it melt in a bowl of warm water.
When it had fully melted I placed the bag inside the chocolate pen and everyone had a go writing with it. It was simple to use and we placed a sheet of greaseproof paper down and everyone tried writing their name before we made the spiders webs. When the chocolate ran out we placed the greaseproof paper and chocolate in the fridge to harden for a couple of minutes.
I quickly iced the apple cupcakes with our toffee buttercream then we peeled our chocolate creations from the paper and placed them on top.
The combination of apple and toffee is really delicious and I think the Chocolate Pen added an extra dimension to our baking. The Chocolate Pen set included the motorised pen, 50 mould designs, 4 nozzles, caps and clamps and 12 bags for chocolate. My son can’t wait to use it again so watch out for more creations soon.
The Candy Craft Chocolate Pen (RRP £19.99) is suitable for children aged 6 and over and can be found in leading retailers. For more information take a look at www.vividtoysandgames.co.uk
