I recently finished my Union Jack flag quilt so was looking for a smaller project to make. Fortunately I found lots of inspiration in Belle and Boo S is for Sewing: over 25 playtime projects to make for creative children.
This unique craft book of Belle & Boo themed playtime projects contains ideas and instructions for over 25 makes designed to engage a child’s imagination. Each sewing project will transport your child to another world where they can make-believe about being a pirate, a ballerina or even a tiny woodland creature.
All projects come with step by step guides and templates and to help those new to sewing, there are full instructions for techniques used. Projects include a jointed Honey Bear toy, felted play toys, a dreamy garden play tent, Belle & Boo puppet theatre with hand puppets to match and a swashbuckling treasure island map.
I decided to make the Honey Bear’s Sleeping Bag for my daughter, using the gorgeous Belle and Boo “Ditsy Boo” screen printed poplin.
It was a lovely straight forward project and I was able to cut the fabric out, quilted the top of the sleeping bag and added the binding by hand.
The project took a couple of hours but you could make it quicker if you added the binding with a machine rather than by hand.
I enjoyed trying a new quilting technique, it doesn’t show well in the photographs but the front is quilted in a diamond pattern. I used a really light batting so the sleeping bag is quite thin and lightweight. It’s the perfect size for toys, especially my daughters’ favourite unicorn softie.
Belle and Boo S is for Sewing is priced £16.99 and available from Belle and Boo or all good bookshops.
