Every year we rent a gorgeous cottage on the beach in Devon. It’s the most amazing place and we would live there in a flash if we could. The children love to pick up sea glass and bits of pottery which has been washed onto the beach and we always bring back a pocketful to remind us of our holiday. We’ve already had our week by the sea and wanted to do something with our beach treasure. When I was in Hobbycraft I spotted the perfect receptacle – fillable wooden letters!
How to clean sea glass
First you need to clean your sea glass with vegetable oil, yes you really should clean it! Sea glass has a dull look because of the salt. If you rub each piece with a little vegetable oil and a piece of paper towel you can remove it and let it shine again.
To make a fillable wooden letter sea glass decoration you will need
a fillable wooden letter from Hobbycraft
Annie Sloan paint
assortment of sea glass
I chose the letter K for our surname and decided to paint it with my favourite Annie Sloan paints – Annie Sloan English Yellow and Annie Sloan Paris Grey.
When it was dry I filled the painted wooden letter with our newly cleaned sea glass and blue and white pottery and it makes a lovely table decoration and talking point. The wooden letters are great for home decorating and can be filled with anything. What would you put in yours?

This is such a lovely idea and how nice to have a place in Devon that you go back to every year too!
