Win a copy of Let’s Go Shopping Peppa!

Today I’m taking part in Ladybird’s Let’s Go Shopping Peppa! blog tour. A brand new Peppa Pig book has just been released and we were very excited to be sent a copy and have one to giveaway too at the end of this post.

Ladybird’s Let’s Go Shopping Peppa! blog tour.

First of all let me tell you about Let’s Go Shopping Peppa!. In this book Peppa and her family need something tasty for lunch. It’s time for a trip to the supermarket! Mummy Pig is very keen on just getting the things on her shopping list, but when they get to the checkout, something else has appeared in the trolley…

Both my children adore Peppa and her family and loved this book. It feels slightly more interactive than previous Peppa books as you can follow them around the shop and count the items they need. It’s a really fun story and a nice addition to our library of Peppa books. You can also see a sneak preview of the book here.

Ladybird's Let's Go Shopping Peppa!I’m fortunate that my children are quite well behaved when we do our weekly food shop. I think it helps if you make shopping for groceries as fun as possible. My top tips for having fun whilst food shopping include:

  • make a shopping list so you know exactly what you need to buy
  • get your children involved by helping you find products, putting them on the conveyor belt and packing the shopping bags

  • make sure you go after breakfast or lunch so you are not hungry
  • promise a small treat after the shopping like a trip to the park or an ice-cream
  • download this fun and free shopping checklist activity sheet for little ones to complete at the supermarket, we took one with us when we went food shopping in Sainsburys recently and my 3 year old loved checking off each product as we found it

  1. Make it into a game – hunting for things and trying to find things a certain colour etc

  2. I get my kids to find the items on our shopping list and they pick a treat after we have all the shopping 🙂

  3. I give them a small list and a basket to get the items, while I do the main shoppping and let them choose a magazine

  4. I find getting them involved really helps…talking through what you’re buying and what you’ll be using it for, etc, stops them from getting bored as quickly and playing up!

  5. Involving them as much as you can, letting them weigh fruit and veg etc and holding the list

  6. My daughters love to help with the shopping. My 8 year old gets things on the list and my 2 year old puts them in the trolley. Also when we use quickcheck (scanning as we go) they both love zapping the products.

  7. Children like to be involved / busy / occupied. They can help by being cooperative, making the shopping trip interesting by being involved in task /s. Such as finding a specific item which is on the shopping list. Important to involve all the children present, encourage cooperation and task being appropriate to each child’s age and stage of development / understanding, physical capability etc.

  8. I point out the items that I want, my 3 year old picks things up and throws them in the basket or trolly

  9. Make it fun and set them mini challenges to keep them occupied (e.g find something with a red label)

  10. My girls love helping, so make them feel like they’re being useful by getting them help you find the next thing on the shopping list.

  11. Make sure you leave plenty of time, there’s no such thing as nipping in for a few items! I get them to find the items on the shelves for me, good to encourage their reading too!

  12. Tell me your top tip for having fun whilst food shopping with children. . . . . . get them involved – finding items, choosing which items, load the trolley, load the conveyor belt etc

  13. My nearly 4-year-old helps me to search for the things on my list… She’s a very good helper!

  14. Try and get them involved with helping with the list. Annoyingly my husband idea is putting Sam on his phone in the trolley playing Peppa Pig puzzles (which I don’t particularly like him doing-but it does keep him quiet!!

  15. I let my little boy help find things and let him choose which bag/tin/box we get so he thinks its all different and he’s picking the best one 🙂

  16. I get my two year old to point out the items for me and I tell her why we are buying it, e.g this is for breakfast, this is for cleaning etc.

I give her items to put onto the conveyor belt which she really enjoys.

  17. With my 3 year old i do a shopping list with pictures of the items i need and get her to help find them

  18. i always read my list out and my grandaughter finds the things and puts them in the trolly x

  19. You mean food shopping with kids can be fun!!?? Only thing I can think of is to give them each a calculator and award a prize for who’s closest to how much I have to spend…;)

  20. We take our little ones shopping trolley and give them a list of little things to put in their trolley and have a list for ours and they get to take the item off the shelf if they can and put it in the right basket. They get rewarded at the end if they’ve been good going round.

  21. I give them their own shopping list keeps them engaged i always make sure we shop where there is easy access to a bathroom …i don’t know what it is with my girls but shops always seem to make them want to go to the loo the minute they get there x

  22. My daughter likes to help by getting things. Whilst this keeps her occupied it does mean that sometime when it comes to paying we have extras!

  23. Fab giveaway, my daughter woyld love this she Peppa pig.obsessed! Fingers crossed thanks for the chance x

  24. I get my daughter to hold the shopping list and the pencil then cross the item off when we put it in the trolley.

  25. Well my little one is only 2 so she gets to hold the list and I let her put the items in the trolley. We also look out for funny things we can spot in the aisles!

  26. We go to the toy section where they both pick out a cuddly toy to keep them company and at the end of the trip we say goodbye and put them back.

  27. We make a list each before going (glue and sissors). The children normally only have a few items as its always pictures of foods from magazines and leaflets. It makes it more fun as they are looking out for certain things, plus they get 5 mins in the toy aisle at the end if they have behaved,

  28. i get my little boy to help a little bit and we point to items and see if he can say what they are

  29. My little girl loves food shopping as I always use the self scan in Sainsbury’s and get her to help me scan the shopping.

  31. We find the items together and then my daughter picks them off the shelf and puts them in the trolly 🙂

  32. I let her help! Easiest way for everyone! PS where is your daughters jumper from its gorgeous!

  33. Turn it into a hunt to see who can find the items the quickest. Whoever wins gets to choose the treats we enjoy in the car on the way home 🙂

  34. My twins are having to practice their reading and writing these days so I let them write the list and find the items in the shop 🙂

  35. I have a list of things I want to buy and my grandchildren try to find as many as possible for me. They like to compete to see who can spot the items first.

  36. We ask jayden to pick the items off the shelf and put them in the trolley. Participation is essential!
