The weather has take a turn for the worst recently so we’ve been stuck indoors more than we’d like. Over the Christmas holidays the children really started to enjoy playing family games. They don’t always grasp the rules and sometimes there’s a little cheating going on but it’s great to see them having fun with indoor games and learning new skills.
Yesterday we had fun with simple noughts and crosses but we made it a little different by using the children’s toys and making a large washi tape grid on the floor!
Noughts and crosses, or tic-tac-toe, is usually played with pencil and paper. A 3×3 grid is drawn and two players take it in turns to make their mark on the grid (usually a nought or cross). The player who succeeds in placing three respective marks in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row wins the game. This is a great game for learning about taking turns which both my children need help with!
Equipment needed to play noughts and crosses:
Roll of washi tape
Clear floor space
5 similar toys x 2
How to play simple noughts and crosses with toys:
Make your washi tape grid in a clear space on the floor or table
Choose your toys, my 3 year old used her Disney Princess figures, and gave me her Frozen figures. My son chose his Disney Cars toys but you can use anything from Lego bricks to Barbie shoes.
Take it in turns to go first and place your toy in the grid until someone wins, or draws!
This month I’m joining up with other parent bloggers to share Indoor Activity ideas.
