Skitterbang Island at Polka Theatre

Storm! Shipwreck! Adventure!

Lost on an island in the very north of the world, a brave little girl meets a shy, curious creature… Not only does he look very odd, he sounds different too!

Meet the Skitterbang. In his cave full of old metal and junk washed up from the sea, he shows her his newest treasure which sounds so beautiful. But who does it really belong to?

Last week we returned to the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon for a performance of Skitterbang Island, an exciting tale of discovery and friendship and a magical world of music, song, rhythm and harmony. Following sell-out performances at Polka in 2010, the critically acclaimed Skitterbang Island sails back for an enchanting summer treat with a difference.

The performance lasted 45 minutes and both my children were enchanted with it. The venue is intimate which helped you feel really drawn into the story. The show is recommended for 3-6 years but my 2 and 4 year old enjoyed it. The story was simple but brought to life beautifully by the songs, scenery and lights. It’s a lovely show and we would heartily recommend it.

Skitterbang Island at Polka Theatre is on from 25th June until 16 August, full information and ticket prices can be found on the Polka Theatre website.

  1. This sounds like something my children would love. I’m glad that you all enjoyed it. Going to the theatre is always magical. I really like those puppets.

  2. This brings back some memories as I used to have my birthday parties at the Polka Theatre! It really is wonderful place and I wish there were more theatres dedicated to children’s performances.

  3. Those puppets looks fantastic and a great way to draw kids into a story. Sounds as though ti was fun for you too.

  4. Oh those photos are gorgeous. We do love the theatre. Come to think of it it’s far too long since we have been. Aaron loved We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and The Gruffalo Live. Nearly the season for pantos, so we’ll have to find one or two. xx
