I love the idea of making my own stamps. I’ve already tried a couple of things, such as shaping the rubber on the end of a pencil to make a bunting stamp. I also made stamps from craft foam and old bottle tops. This weeks’ effort involved recycling styrofoam sheets, we used the ones from ready-made pizzas, and printing hearts with styrofoam.
Equipment needed to make hearts with Styrofoam:
pointed end of a ballpoint pen lid
wooden heart
styrofoam sheet (we used one from a pizza box)
red paint
white paper
I pressed quite heavily and made sure I went round the heart twice as I wanted to make a deep impression in the styrofoam.
I covered the styrofoam in hearts then let my daughter paint it red which she really enjoyed.
Then we carefully placed a sheet of white paper over the top and she pressed it down with a rolling pin.
When we removed the sheet of paper it left the impression of each heart really clearly. As the styrofoam was stippled the overall effect is perfect and the hearts were really clear.
We printed on a couple of sheets as I think they’ll make great Father’s Day cards for Daddy and Grandad. A really lovely craft with instant results, and it felt great making something which didn’t cost a penny!
