The Wonderful World of Simon Abbott

Posted on March 3, 2014 by jenny

The Wonderful World of Simon Abbott is a new series by Ticktock that puts the fun back into children’s non-fiction. For readers aged 5-7 this series gives children witty informative guides to their favourite topics. All titles are quirkily illustrated by popular children’s artist Simon Abbott and packed with funny facts.

In 2013 The Big Body Book and Journey around the Solar System were published. Today (3rd March) two new titles have been published, Planes, Trains and Cars and Animal’s Everywhere. Simon’s easy style has instant appeal, communicating complex ideas coherently for a younger audience.

Simon Abbott books

My nearly 4 year old is transport mad so he’s been excitedly looking through Planes, Trains and Cars. The book is filled with fascinating and memorable facts about the different modes of transport and the basics of how they work. This book teaches children about everything that zooms and soars from bicycles to cement mixers, a double-decker bus and an oil tanker.

Did you know that in Britain, early cars had to have a man walking in front of them waving a flag, despite the fact they could only travel at 2mph in town!

The illustrations are brilliant and there’s lots to see and talk about on every page. With Animal’s Everywhere children can explore the wonderful world of wild animals, filled with laugh-out-loud drawings and interesting text about all things animal. Answering hilarious questions such as “Which fish has a built-in fishing rod?” and packed with memorable facts.

The books are published by Ticktock which is the children’s imprint of Octopus Books, priced £5.99.

They look like lovely books. My daughter loves story books that are also full of facts. I guess it’s just child’s curiosity and desire to learn. Should definitely be nurtured. Thanks for the review.
