How to solve a Rubik’s Cube

How to solve a Rubik’s Cube

Posted on August 6, 2020April 13, 2022 by jenny

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never managed to solve a classic Rubik’s Cube. My husband loved the challenge and taught himself a few years ago, but I just never had the patience. We have a few different Rubik’s puzzles and they are great for popping into a handbag if we’re going out for dinner or on a car journey. They are a really fun challenge for kids (and adults too!). Can you learn to solve the Cube this summer?

Rubik’s 40th anniversary

This year Rubik’s are celebrating their 40th year this year and kindly gifted us a selection of the standard solve cubes – the Mini 2×2, Cube 3×3 and Master 4×4, as well as the new 40th anniversary metallic 3×3. I love that the range keeps expanding and we have all been enjoying playing with the selection we were sent.

‘How to’ YouTube videos

We have recently been watching The Speed Cubers, a documentary about world’s Rubik’s Cube-solving record breakers Feliks Zemdegs and Max Park on Netflix. This totally inspired my two to persevere with their Cubes! However if your children get a little frustrated with how to solve a Rubik’s Cube then I have some amazing news, because there are now a series of ‘how to solve’ videos which have recently launched on the Rubik’s YouTube channel. There is loads of content to watch and enjoy, which should hopefully encourage the kids to keep going with their Cubes!

How to solve a Rubik’s Cube with the Rubik’s App

That’s not all. As well as the helpful YouTube videos there’s a new Rubik’s app. Sometimes the puzzle solving seems like a mammoth challenge, but the apps makes it so much more fun. My children love an app and they figured out how to use it really quickly.

using an app to help solve rubik's cube

The app features a virtual Cube, an augmented Reality Cube to help you solve a real Rubik’s Cube with minimal moves, and a Cube timer to record your solves. It’s really fun to use and a bit of a game-changer! The app is currently available for Apple/IOS but it is coming to Android soon. You can download it from the App Store.

Oh wow! I have to check this app out. I have given up so many times solving a Rubik”s cube. You got me so excited to try once more. I am buying a new Rubik’s cube online. 🙂

I think I need the 2 by 2 one, maybe then I’d have a chance to solve it. I remember taking the stickers off when I was a kid and cheating! Mich x
