Buckinghamshire days out Family Life Local Review

A trip to Langley Park Country Park, Bucks

A trip to Langley Park Country Park, Bucks

Our first picnic of the year took place at Langley Park. Now we are allowed to venture out further from home, we thought we would love to visit somewhere new. We’re frequent visitors to Black Park which is the other side of the A412, but had never visited Langley Park before. We packed the puppy and a picnic and set off to explore somewhere new.

Langley Park is one of Buckinghamshire’s best kept secrets. Langley Park is steeped in history and a nationally important haven for wildlife. The car park is quite small so if you’re going at the weekend I would get there early. There is a fee to park in the car park. We unloaded the car and went to explore the Rhododendron which Langley Park is famous for.

The stunning Rhododendron collection in the Temple Gardens is an explosion of colour from April to June. It is a lovely place to walk through when everything is in colour. We stopped to admire the famous view out to Windsor Castle and beyond.

Then we ventured further out into the park to Kings Wood and the wider parkland where some veteran Oak and Chestnut trees were planted by Capability Brown. The parkland was beautiful and there were information signs dotted around to help you learn more about Langley Park.

There were plenty of places to walk so we never felt like we had to worry about social distancing. The weather was gorgeous so we were all happy to stop, throw our picnic blanket down and enjoy our picnic. We did a few geocaches too as there are lots all over Langley Park.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had such a lovely big space to explore and it made for a lovely day out. We explored the Temple Gardens, the parkland and the woods, although there were lots of other paths we could have used. In fact you can pick up a History Trail and Timberland Tree Trail leaflet from the cafe. You can cycle through parts of Langley Park, go orienteering, and there’s also a Jubilee Play Garden for children to play in.

Dogs are welcome at Langley Park and our own little pup had a great time. We walked for a few hours which surprised us (our pup has very short legs!), but we can’t wait to go back and explore more of Langley Park.

Unfortunately the Tea Rooms and toilets were closed for now but we look forward to going back when they are open again.
