Love Hearts inspired painted rocks

We love making our own painted rocks. They are such a simple but fun craft that anyone can do With Valentine’s Day coming up next week, why not make a few Love Hearts inspired painted rocks? These are a calorie-free treat which everyone will love to find!

We used:

Bag of smooth pebbles or rocks

Selection of posca pens

Varnish to seal the painted rocks (we use Wilko Gloss Yacht Varnish)

First we washed our rocks in warm soapy water and left them to dry. Then we raided our craft supplies for pastel coloured pens. We love those little iconic Love Hearts and they were super simple to replicate. First we drew a circle and filled it in.

When this had dried we added detail with a thin red pen. First we added a circle, then the Love Hearts message inside the heart. The children chose different messages, from Love to Smile and Be Mine.

We left them to dry before giving them a coat of varnish. I always seal our rocks with Wilko Gloss Yacht Varnish as we hide our rocks outside. This takes about 24 hours to dry but gives the rocks a really lovely shine. We made sure to add our local hashtag on the back of each one too. We took them out with us and hid them around our local library for people to find.
