Family Life Monday Happy List

Summer holidays edit {Week 251}

exploring Kings Cross with kids

I love to start the week by writing Five Happy Things. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures – it’s a post I always enjoy writing. The first week of the Summer holidays has flown by and, thanks to the London heatwave, things got a bit sticky last week with not much sleep.

Five Happy Things {Week 251}

We started the week with a trip into London, exploring around the new developments behind Kings Cross Station, followed by a drawing workshop with Martin Brown to celebrate the new Horrible Histories film. We could have stayed out all day as there is so much to see and do in that area. There were parks, water fountains and lots of open spaces to explore.

The weather just got hotter and hotter so we escaped the very hot weather in London and took the train to visit my mum in Wiltshire for a few days. We went to the cinema and watched Spider-Man: Far From Home, which was really good. The children found a new climbing tree which provided lots of shade so they spent ages learning to climb it.

From Wiltshire we went further West and spent a few days in Exeter visiting my FIL. We all love Devon and had two trips to the beach at Dawlish and Teignmouth. The weather was still gorgeous so there was paddling, sandcastle building and lots of ice cream.

On Saturday I booked myself on a mosaic workshop in Teignmouth. There are loads of gorgeous mosaics around Teignmouth and when I discovered the artist was local and ran workshops, I booked myself on one. The workshop was pretty intense, but it’s not often you get to spend 6 hours concentrating on one thing. I learnt loads of great tips and came away with a pretty good mosaic which just needs grouting.

Last week we went sent a bundle of Missing Link items and we’ve been having fun with them, Mr Link even came on the train with us to Wiltshire! As well as a copy of the film we received a gorgeous bug hotel and a Conservation Conversation Jar so the children enjoyed playing with these in the garden.  Don’t forget we will be watching Missing Link this afternoon on Twitter at 4pm and you can watch along with us as it’s available via Digital Download.

Have a great week!

    What an amazing week you have had of the holidays. I used to love climbing trees when I was younger, something about it. I only heard of the Horrible Histories movie a couple of days ago, I remember reading some of the books when I was younger, they were always so funny!

    Kings Cross Station made me think of Harry Potter and that makes me happy :-). I want to see Spiderman Far From Home myself, hoping to get there this week.

    The area just behind Kings Cross is so nice, although the grass seated area was so much busier the day I went there x

    Wiltshire is lovely. Nice to see you had a great time in Devon. We went to Dawlish last year.

    I love the sound of the mosaic workshop, a friend of mine runs a class during the daytime for kids and it looks so much fun x
