Five Happy Things {Week 249}

Posted on July 15, 2019July 15, 2019 by jenny

I love to start the week by writing Five Happy Things. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures – it’s a post I always enjoy writing. We made it to the last week of the school year. Today, after 6 years, I did my last drop off at Infant School which was pretty bittersweet.

Five Happy Things {Week 249}

Last week Little Sis had her Leaver’s Assembly. It was pretty similar to the one Big Brother performed 2 years ago at the same school! She told me she finds these kind of performances “boring” but I loved watching her perform. She was a newsreader and had a few lines to remember and say. They performed it 4 times in 2 days so she’s happy it’s over and she can enjoy the last week at Infant School. I know she’s sad at the thought of leaving a school where she is so happy, but I really think that Junior school will be a place where she grows and finds out who she is.

We signed up to the Summer Reading Challenge at our local library after school. The children have taken part since they were old enough to join in and love visiting the library, taking part in the Reading Challenge events and collecting the rewards. The theme this year is Space Chase which will keep them engaged during the summer.

Over the weekend we went to the Science Museum as I had booked tickets to the Top Secret exhibition. It marks the 100th anniversary of GCHQ and it was fascinating to learn all about the things it does to protect society. We especially loved the display about the Krogers who were Russian spies living in Ruislip in the 1960s.

Yesterday we were lucky enough to be invited to watch the new Playmobil: The Movie at a cinema in Leicester Square. The children have always loved their Playmobil toys and this is a really fun film, transporting the characters into magical Playmobil worlds. We loved it and can’t wait to watch it when it comes out on the 8th August.

It was so lovely to spend the day in London. We visited the Lego Store and watched them getting ready for the premiere of The Lion King in Leicester Square. We also treated ourselves to the most amazing ice-cream sandwiches in Yolkin, an Asian inspired ice cream shop in Chinatown, selling macaron ice cream sandwiches. I chose a Cookie Monster macaron with Cookies and Cream ice-cream inside. It was delicious and well worth a visit if you’re in the West End!

Have a great week!
