Taking the 30 Days Wild challenge

Taking the 30 Days Wild challenge

Posted on June 6, 2018August 18, 2024 by jenny

Have you heard about the 30 Days Wild challenge? 30 Days Wild is the UK’s month-long nature challenge organised by The Wildlife Trust which is taking place now. The idea is simple – can you do something wild every day for 30 days?

Who are the Wildlife Trust?

No matter where you are in the UK, your Wildlife Trust is inspiring people about wildlife and wild places and saving, protecting and standing up for nature near you. Together, The Wildlife Trusts care for 2,300 beautiful nature reserves and most people live within a few miles of one of these special places. They are champions for wildlife on land and at sea. And they believe that all our lives are better when they’re a bit wild.

What is a Random Act of Wildness?

A Random Act of Wildness is any thing that you can do in an average working day to bring a little nature into your life. They can take a few seconds, a few minutes, or a few hours! You can find 101 ideas on the Wildlife Trust website, as well as download your free 30 Days Wild pack, which includes a wallchart, a poster, and an interactive booklet to help you go wild!

Taking the 30 Days Wild challenge

BEAR have teamed up with the Wildlife Trust to help promote the 30 Days Wild challenge. We were sent some delicious BEAR goodies as well as some craft activities so we can take part too during June!

Taking the 30 Days Wild challenge

For the first week of the 30 Days Wild challenge we have been busy thinking about sustainability and conservation. Small steps can make a big difference so I’ve been encouraging the children to think small and be part of something big. Simple steps could include switching off your electric gadgets for the day. Or how about going for a walk and picking up any litter you find. You could plant flowers in your window box to help the bees or make an effort to recycle everything you can.

replacing plastic straws with bamboo straws

We’ve been feeling really guilty about the amount of single use plastic we use as a family. The children recently decided to not take any more juice cartons to school as part of their packed lunch, and we also decided not to buy any more plastic straws. We’re going to use the ones we already have but not buy any more, instead swapping our single use plastic for more sustainable straws made from bamboo!

You can see what everyone else is up to by following the #30dayswild tag across social. Let me know if you’re taking the 30 Days Wild challenge too!

I’ve followed #30DaysWild for a couple of years now, it’s such a great opportunity to think and do more about the environment and get in touch with the nature around us. When I spoke to the RSPB about plastic straws they suggested we save the used ones and use them in bug hotels, apparently they’re ideal!

This is a great idea and I really hope schools are getting behind it. I’ll have a look at the challenge and see if I can get my two doing it.
