Where's Wally World Book Day costume

Where’s Wally? (World Book Day costume)

Posted on March 1, 2018August 17, 2021 by jenny

World Book Day is here again! Us parents either love it or loathe it. I was so jealous of other school as ours had a strict pyjama dress code only. Last year this was relaxed but there has been some hoo haa this year, loads of confusion and the mixed message of costumes or pyjamas.

I understand that not everyone wants to buy or make costumes for World Book Day. My son hates dressing up but my daughter loves it. This year she really wanted to go as Harry Potter but eventually she chose Where’s Wally instead. I didn’t mind, especially as the glasses can be worn for both!

Where’s Wally? World Book Day costume

Where’s Wally is a really easy costume to put together. I ended up buying a red and white striped tshirt and hat along with the glasses. My 6 year old wore blue trousers and trainers to finish off the look. You could easily put this outfit together though by buying a red and white tshirt and knitting a hat!

Where's Wally? World Book Day

My daughter was able to take a copy of her favourite Where’s Wally book and there was an extended soft start this morning so we could spend some time reading her book which was lovely. There were some great costumes amongst her classmates including a couple of gingerbread men, Elsa, Peter Pan, Red Riding Hood, the monkey from Money Puzzle by Julia Donaldson as well as some pyjamas and onesies. The kids loved that they had a chance to dress up to celebrate all things books!

A visit from Tom Fletcher

Earlier in the week they had a visit from Tom Fletcher who lives locally. He read from There’s A Monster In Your Book, The Dinosaur That Pooped a Planet, The Creakers, The Christmasaurus and his new book Brain Freeze. My daughter was overjoyed to meet him as she has all The Dinosaur That Pooped books! I was pretty happy to bump into him as he was coming out of school too. They decorated their classroom doors with pictures of the dinosaur from The Dinosaur That Pooped too, and even decorated potatoes as their favourite book characters! It has been quite a week at school celebrating World Book Day.
