With my children now finished school for the holidays I have been planning how to keep them busy. They are so excited about Christmas Day so we’ve planned a few trips to the park, crafts and bakes to keep them busy. Today we had fun building the Haynes Internal Combustion Engine kit.
Haynes Publishing is the home of car, motorcycle, scooter and ATV manuals, as well as a range of other specialist topics in print and digital formats. They also have the rather fabulous International Motor Museum which we visited this summer.
Haynes Build Your Own Internal Combustion Engine
We recently received the Haynes Build Your Own Internal Combustion Engine kit. This is one of a number of sets they produce, including the Haynes V8 Engine, Haynes V-Twin Motorcycle Engine, Haynes Jet Engine and Haynes FM Radio Calendar.
I have to admit that I’m not a very technical person. My husband is though and he was very excited about building this kit with the children. It’s aimed at children aged 10 and over, but my children are a little younger than this.
The Haynes Internal Combustion Engine comes in a large box and contains all the tools you’ll need and over 100 parts to assemble the working model. It comes complete with its very own Haynes Manual, giving clear step-by-step instructions. It allows you to construct a fully working model of a petrol car engine with ignition sound and illuminating spark plugs.
They spent a few hours putting the model together and were really happy with the end result. It does require 2 x AA batteries so make sure you have some close to hand when putting the kit together. The casing is transparent which means you can see how the combustion engine works. The addition of lights and sounds is a nice touch.
The model is fun to put together, is a great educational STEM toy and costs £39.99.
