He’s making a list and checking it twice

reading the Christmas catalogue

In this digital age I’m glad that paper catalogues still exist. Catalogues were a huge part of my childhood. There was always a pile of them at home and there seemed to be one for everything, from the Avon lady to the Clean-eze man, to clothes company’s and toy shops. Thankfully toy catalogues are still around because they give my children hours of enjoyment!

Now I don’t think you can say that a toy catalogue is particularly educational but when I asked my children for the top 5 things they love from the new Smyths Toys catalogue, they sat down for ages with paper and a pencil. There were a few arguments but mostly I heard satisfied sighs as they looked at all the latest toys they could buy with their pocket money. Of course their minds soon rushed ahead to Christmas and their list making got longer and longer….

They love making lists and had so much fun. Although I had to stop my son from using colour co-ordinated post-its as his list making was getting ridiculous. They both enjoyed a good look through the catalogue, it has even been taken to bed a few times for some bedtime reading!

I asked them for their top 5 favourite toys from the Smyths Toys catalogue and here are their picks:

Cars 3 Ultimate Florida Speedway
Prepare for climatic Disney Pixar Cars 3 race action with the Ultimate Florida Speedway! At an epic 5 feet long from end to end, this play set is loaded with exciting movie-inspired details! It features a motorized booster, themed play areas, a raised track for increased velocity and a 1:55 Lightning McQueen.

The Lion Guard Training Lair Playset
Complete with lights and sounds as well as Kion and Janja figures; you can recreate Kion’s Savannah adventures with this Lion Guard Training Lair Playset!

PJ Masks Transforming Figure Set Assortment
Place your day time figure into the playset and push the button to change them into their PJ Masks costumes!

LEGO Star Wars Death Star
Operate the giant superlaser from the control room, plan missions in the conference chamber, and launch Lord Vader’s TIE Advanced from the hangar bay. Fix Droids in the maintenance room, keep prisoners secure in the detention block and overpower rebel starships with the spring-loaded shooter turbo laser, turbo laser towers and powerful tractor beam. You can even visit Emperor Palpatine in his throne room, keep things moving in the cargo area, and take out the trash in the trash compactor. LEGO Star Wars Death Star comes with an impressive 23 mini figures.

LeapFrog LeapPad Ultimate
The LeapPad Ultimate comes from the makers of the world famous range of kids’ tablets. It is the newest in kid safe, kid smart and kid tough learning. Wi-Fi connected with a 7″ hi-res touch screen, powerful processor and sleek design, the newest addition to the LeapPad family delivers the Ultimate learning experience.

It was definitely interesting to see their choices which were eye-wateringly expensive as usual. I think I’ll be hiding the catalogue away for a few more weeks and saving up for Christmas!

I used to love the Christmas catalogues coming out! The leapfrog sounds good. We have got Lucas a Paw Patrol car garage type thing, I’ve already wrapped it up and forgotten it haha!

[…] Despite being able to shop online I find a paper catalogue really useful. If you’re planning for a new baby or grandparents want to buy you something, the catalogue is perfect for looking through, and adding a post-it too for the things you need. I love looking through catalogues, and you may remember my children do too! […]
