Getting dressed up this Autumn

I love this time of year because there is so much to look forward to. Unlike the long 6 weeks of the summer holidays with endless warm and sunny days stretching in front of you, I actually prefer Autumn and Winter. I love to have things to look forward to and now there’s Halloween, Bonfire Night, my daughter’s birthday and Christmas to get ready for. It’s going to be a busy {xx} days before Christmas!

Shopping for Autumn fashion

I’ve recently given myself a bit of a fashion overhaul. I’ve been slowly losing weight so have been adding new pieces to my wardrobe. I’m now all ready for colder weather thanks to lovely fluffy warm jumpers, gorgeous boots in autumnal shades and a lovely new winter coat.

Of course it’s not just me that needs clothes for Autumn. My son is going through a Harry Potter phase and doesn’t care what he wears as long as it features a Harry Potter reference on it. He doesn’t seem to feel the cold but I’ll be looking out for a Harry Potter themed hat for him – or making my own. My daughter is more like me though, and loves to be comfy and warm but colourful too. In fact, although she’s only 5 she already has the nicest wardrobe in the house.

Getting dressed up this Autumn

Fortunately she’s really easy to buy for – which is probably why she has so many clothes. I’ve started looking for some special dresses she can wear to all the events and parties we have coming up. There are some gorgeous baby girl dresses around at the moment, in fact I’ve been a bit spoiled for choice. I’m hoping to catch up with my little niece over half term so I was thinking about getting her this cute baby blue dress. I love it when kids dress up nicely and I know it won’t be long before they refuse to put on anything an adult has chosen for them, so I’m making the most of whilst I can.

I was flicking through my sewing books at the weekend and saw a brilliant homemade cat jumper I really want to make for my daughter. After my day at The Handmade Fair on Saturday I have the urge to sew something and I think I could easily upcycle a black hoodie into a black cat for her – definitely something to keep her warm but look cute when she’s out Trick or Treating next month!

Have you spotted any must-haves for Autumn? I love browsing online as well as looking round the shops, and Halloween and Christmas are the perfect time for picking up fun clothing for kids.

At first I find it so difficult as the weather turns, never feel quite right. Either too underdressed or too warm, but once I sort out what needs to go back in to storage (proper summer stuff), and drag out some of the things I’d forgotten about, I start to relish in my almost forgotten favourites. For me one of the best things is being able to wear my boots again.

But with Jasper, my five year old, it is quite annoying. I find he has grown out of all this warmer things, with jumpers being too short in the sleeve and trousers too short on the leg. He needs an entirely new wardrobe now!
