Baking gingerbread Easter biscuits with kids

Baking gingerbread Easter biscuits with kids

Posted on April 5, 2017August 15, 2023 by jenny

We love to make gingerbread biscuits. You may think they are a Christmas treat but they can be easily adapted to any holiday, from Valentine’s Day to Mother’s Day, or even just because your children love the Clangers or playing Minecraft.

With Easter coming up and the children enjoying their Easter holidays I thought we should take some time for baking and decorating a delicious batch of gingerbread.

My children know how to bake so we followed our favourite gingerbread recipe, measuring the ingredients, mixing everything together to make a sticky dough. We left it in the fridge for 30 minutes, this makes it easier to roll and stops the biscuits spreading as they bake.

We looked through our cookie cutters but the children wanted to use the egg-shaped one.

We cut out *lots* of biscuits.

When they were cooked and had cooled down we decorated them with coloured icing pens and sprinkles.

The children both had their own ideas how to decorate and we ended up with all kids of patterns, squiggles and doodles. They really enjoy icing biscuits and it made a fun Easter holiday activity. They are so excited about Easter and all the real eggs they are going to receive.

I think it’s so important to get kids into the kitchen at an early age. Baking is a fun activity that everyone can enjoy and it looks like your kids loved it! Plus who doesn’t love gingerbread!!
