Potato print snowmen craft for kids

Posted on December 9, 2016 by jenny

I can’t believe we finished our last craft as part of the Bostik Family Craft Bloggers today. We’ve had so much fun over the last 12 months using their products in our crafty activities. Our final prompt was snow so today we made potato print snowmen a perfect Christmas craft for kids!

For our potato print snowmen we used – potatoes, a cookie cutter, white paint and a pack of Bostik Glitter Pens.

How to make potato print snowmen

I prepared the potatoes by cutting them in half and used the cookie cutter to cut my desired shape. I couldn’t find our round cookie cutter so used a flower shape instead (I don’t think anyone noticed!). I carefully removed the excess potato and dried them roughly on pieces of kitchen towel.

We poured out the white paint onto an old lid and my daughter pressed the potato into it, then onto a piece of black paper.

She had a few attempts to get the right amount of paint on the potato then started making her snowman family.

She decided to make a picture of our family so printed 4 snowmen, with potato printed heads and bodies. When she had finished we set the paper aside to dry.

She really likes using the Bostik Glitter Pens and we thought they would make the ideal thing to decorate her snowmen. I admit she finds them a but tricky to squeeze out but they definitely help her exercise her fine motor skills!

She added eyes, noses, mouths, hair, arms and legs to each one! She was a little heavy handed but I think the decorations add to the charm of her family portrait.

She was really proud of her finished potato print portrait. She added everyone’s name in pen and it’s lovely to see her writing (and spelling!) improving too.

These are brilliant. I’ve never tried potato printing with my boys before, but think I’ll give it a go now!
