Recycled plastic bag sandcastle flags

Recycled plastic bag sandcastle flags

Posted on August 26, 2016August 27, 2016 by jenny

Today I am taking part in the monthly Project: recycle and create blog hop, the theme is using plastic bags. Earlier in the summer we recycled plastic bags to make a Hank from Finding Dory wind sock.

Despite the tax on plastic bags I admit I often forget to bring our own and end up buying one. Unfortunately we have a lot of plastic bags at home. We had a large Paw Patrol plastic bag which I thought would be fun to upcycle into something for my 4 year old. She’s a huge Paw Patrol fan so we made recycled plastic bag sandcastle flags.

We used:
One large Paw Patrol plastic bag
Sizzix Big Shot machine
Sizzix Bigz Plus Die – Bunting
Wooden sticks
Sticky tape

How to make recycled plastic bag sandcastle flags:

First I cut the plastic bag into smaller pieces to fit through my Sizzix machine.

I used my Sizzix machine and the Sizzix Bigz Plus Die – Bunting to cut bunting flags from the plastic bag. I’ve never tried cutting plastic on my Sizzix machine but it worked pretty well, just catching a few times. You could easily do this step by hand if you don’t have a die cutting machine.

Once I had my four plastic flags I attached them to the wooden sticks with sticky tape.

My daughter loved these and has used them in her sand pit at home. We also took them away on holiday with us and used them at the beach! You could make these with all kinds of plastic bags – patterned or plain – a lovely way to make personalised sandcastle flags and recycle too.

That is a really cute idea for people with children! Or big kids like myself!

What a great idea to use up plastic bags! I’ve never used a die cutting machine before but I’ve always wanted too.
