Sun catchers from nature inspired by Puffin Rock

Sun catchers from nature

Do your children enjoy Puffin Rock? It’s narrated by Chris O’Dowd and stars 12 year old Kate McCafferty from Derry as the voice of Oona. Puffin Rock follows the funny adventures of a family of puffins who live on a beautiful Irish island. Oona, is a smart young puffling, eager to learn and explore. She shares her escapades on Puffin Rock, with her sweet little brother, Baba, and all their friends. The show is a charming mix of natural history facts, pre-school learnings, relationship dynamics and humour.

My 4 year old loves Puffin Rock so I’m really pleased the new series launched on Nick Jr. yesterday at 3:10pm. New episodes are repeated at 8am and 8pm the following day so there are plenty of chance to catch them! The episodes are not only entertaining but a great way to learn more about nature. To celebrate the new series, and carry on the learning opportunity, we were inspired to get outdoors and look for some crafty inspiration. This morning we went out for a walk and found lots of fallen leaves and petals we could use for a fun nature-inspired activity.

When we returned home we set out everything we needed to make sun catchers inspired by nature: paper plate, contact paper, scissors and our collection of leaves and petals.

I cut out the middle of the paper plate and covered it with a piece of contact paper. Then my 4 year old got to work, filling it with all the things she had found outdoors.

When she had finished I hung it up in the window with some washi tape. It makes a really pretty seasonal sun catcher.

That sun-catcher is gorgeous, I definitely want to make one with my niece next time she’s over.

How pretty and what a lovely idea to do with children! I’m quite tempted to make me myself! Teehee
